Is oakland really this bad, do the politicians care.

Okay..... next question. Should we build homeless encampments or, wellness centers if you will, staffed with counselors, employment guidance, to help and prepare these people to return back to society?

OR.... do you round them up, state they're breaking the law, and have them fill potholes on streets and pick up trash along the freeways.... like a chain gang?
Both. Let's house the mentally ill and those who are able-bodied, and put them to work. Bring back the CCC.

CA politicians want to integrate the homeless and druggies into the communities. The progressives believe them living and blending in with the rest of society will help them improve their existence at the expense of law abiding citizens.
yes they want everyone to share in the trash, prostitution, retail theft, begging for money, stealing, using the outside like a toilet, that the druggies will give you. i bet fern the king has his safe surrounds away from the wobblers. coming soon to an area near you, the wobblers.

i live in a secluded section, but within minutes of driving, zombie land.

Progressive politicians put the wobblers in "poorer" cities and those communities don't fight back.
When pushed urban problems into high income areas, those citizens fight back hard and with lawsuits.
That's how it is.

king, that is true. i only see a druggie sometimes walking thru my neighborhood. at night they are looking for unlocked car doors. but, i also don't have to go far here to see oakland.

A few can but most cannot.
Many can but a lot of them don't want to.

My daughter used to feel sorry for these people and during college interned one summer in some type of 'outreach' program to help the homeless. Needless to say that after a couple of weeks she changed her tune 180 degrees. Many of these people are permanent 'homeless' with tents set up in a group with a community generator for elec, table/chairs in the tents, cots, microwave ovens, carpet floors, etc. Everyday there's a bunch of do-gooders that bring leftover food from bakeries and restaurants to feed them and the city provides porta jons. They are all offered homeless shelters in buildings but they don't want them. They want the 'freedom' of living on the street panhandling for money to buy drugs/alcohol and they know the shelters won't allow the drugs/alcohol so they stay in their tents.

For many, its a life they choose and they don't want to change unless forced to.

180° change....

What would be the opposite of "feeling sorry for someone"....

I'm sure the daughter didn't stop feeling sorry for those truly in need....

I'm sure most folks are skeptics when it comes to the homeless....
Because of the scammers....

CA has spent billions over the years in aiding the homeless and druggies.
It's like an administrative number of government and nonprofit workers benefitting in the continual never-ending homeless problem.
Most of the billions probably spent on the bureaucracy costs.

SCOTUS recently ruled in favor of Grants Pass, OR and the city's rights to declare trespass on homeless. Today I was grocery shopping and next to the parking lot, the local police were making a couple of homeless guys who set up on an adjacent cul-de-sac clean up their mess, move their stuff, or throw it in a waiting garbage truck. Things may be changing.
Guess what? Homeless guy was back at his old location. Guess they are more persistent than law enforcement.

They move to other streets. SF said a large percentage of homeless comes from out of towners. Can't blame them, SF is city of Love.

You still rember your hippies days there. It was actually a summer of free love. Remember to put a flower in your hair.

It was the start of drug use, but more importantly got women to get rid of those bras.
