Thanks to all who participated in an earlier version of this thread:

I just droptested my new to me 5000 8O and .... it survived :D photos intact.

Since this was my big step up from the DC40 (yes thats the Four-OH), I was concerned.

The DC 215 is a GREAT camera for this biz. Its not much for the family xmas photos, but for front, rear and street scenes it is more than ample photography. As mentioned above it fits in the pocket, a huge plus. I thought I was stepping up when I just bought the DC5000 after Kodak put them on fire sale. It is rugged and durable but it is awfully bulky. Its photos are a huge upgrade from the 215 (for those family xmas photos).
However, its size doesnt translate well for inspection.

I'd stick with the 215 if you can still find it new, it should be $199. Kodak has been selling them at that price for three months or so but i havent checked lately.

Just my two cents...

Have 2 DC215's well pleased, good product for the money. The size is a plus for me. Wade

I have owned a bunch of Kodak cameras over the years. From a DC40 and 50 up. They have been absolutely no trouble what so ever. The 215 is an ok camera. Not as tough as the 40s and 50s. The place to buy in on ubid.com. I picked up two 215s last may for $175 and they have gone down since then. They have others too. If you want a 5000 just keep looking back and you will probably find one. Good luck.

My DC215 has been droptested several times on the concrete and numerous times on the car floorboard (gotta love your average American motorist...)

Picture quality is fair, and transfers are slow over the cable connector (this might apply to all cameras though) but it definately does the job. Batteries will also last you a LONG time as long as you turn it off between pictures if you have to walk around the house or something.

Just had my first problem with my DC 210, the plastic door for the card finally broke a pin. Still using it but most likely will be looking at a new camera sometime soon. That little Nikon is really sweet, love the size.

I have had such wonderful luck with the 210 will probably look for a new 215 on EBay. If you buy from Kodak, look into the extended full replacement warranty.

Why buy a DC215 when you can get a DC5000 for about $220 off the net? The DC5000 has the feel and quality of a real camera and it is water resistant. Give it some thought.

I purchased a Kodak 215 last February. Went to pcworld.com and searched for cameras. Found one from Netlink Computers at ncix.com.
Price was $158.38 + shipping/handling/insurance. Total price at my door was $173.31. This camera came with batteries and a card reader. Downloads w/card reader are very fast!

I had the 210. It lasted 4 years. It does have a manufacturing defect. The batteries are inserted upwards into the camera. This causes the batteries to constantly fight gravity, pushing on the battery door, making inconsistent contact with the batteries, causing power to go off and on. I then began to look at the 215 , which if you notice the battery tray inserts from side. Then i spoke to a current owner who told me the tray is flimsy. Anyway , finally went with the dc 5000. Great camera.

My DC215 has worked well for me.
