Licensed Appraisers Supporting Themselves In Texas?

Im in the process of becoming licensed. The plan was to go straight from being a trainee to being certified, but this summer I can either renew my trainee license or become a licensed appraiser. I thought I might as well get my license . From there I’ll become certified.

I have two years of trainee experience. Will it be hard to find jobs (I’m in the DFW area) with just being licensed? Do AMCs hire licensed appraisers? I would like to work on my own while I work towards becoming certified, I just don’t know what the job market is for licensed appraisers in Texas.

If you were willing to work with a mentor until certified why not continue that?

I've been debating between the two. I was leaning towards getting licensed because the course work would go towards my certification. If I renewed my license I would be spending money on ACE courses that wouldn't count towards my 200 education hours.

I still keep going back and forth.
