Moonlighting for another company

I think what you are wanting to do is really low. Your current boss has paid for the software and license and you want to use it for yourself. Why don't you purchase your own copy of the software, purchase your own E&O and start your own company.

----------------------------------------------------

I bet you are using his MLS and tax records log ins too.

This is EXACTLY why I have not hired any other appraisers or taken on any trainees.:new_2gunsfiring_v1:

assumptions, assumptions.

You are assuming that my boss is out of the loop, when in fact, my boss knows the situation and has given me the OK to help another company out while they are in need and while we are slow.

Maybe we are guilty of assumptions; however, what is one to assume based upon limited information from the op? Typically appraisers experience this very problem after a trainee becomes licensed; therefore, this has become a natural assumption among appraisers. If I have made an incorrect assumption, please accept my apology. Any agreement between you and the appraiser that you work for is no one else's business but between the two of you.

When I was appraising and had ACI, I paid for the license, but they still put the company name of my supervisor on the form. I would have preferred no company name but no one asked me.

Sooo, just do a reverse ACI. Pam has appraisals that were done in WinTotal, sliced and diced by the "unnamed 3rd party company" that came out of the other side with WinTotal erased and ACI on it. I don't have ANY problem with you doing the same, which can easily be done using Acrobat Writer after you pdf the appraisal. Erase the company name and add your own. Turn about is fair play. If you paid for the license, you should be able to use it to work for whomever you want. This is just a scheme on their part to get more money out of you.

geez

On the bottom of the second page of a 1004 form and at the bottom of the signature page, there is the name of the company I currently work for. I havent figured out how to insert a different company name so that I can work for more than one company. Any ideas?
First off, Robin never said anything about being a trainee and her professional status shows "Certified Residential Appraiser". Therefore, whoever made the trainee comment it was seemingly unfounded.

Secondly, this is not necessarily a total turn-coat deal. We've had a client before that wanted their name on the appraisal - it all depends on what Robin's motives are as well as what her employer deems acceptable. Granted, I don't agree that it should be that way but I also don't think that it automatically implies her to have ill intentions.

Technically that's probably a no-no but I believe you can edit that line of text in the PDF if you are PDFing a report to someone. Depends what version of Adobe you have. Then again, I think that text may be too small. I'm pretty sure I've tried it before.

And in regards to my previous remarks, I hadn't read all the posts thus far. Oops.

Refer to my post #4. I misread Robin's original post and made an assumption that Robin was a trainee. This was MY BAD, and I deeply regret this. You can't retract the written word no matter hard you try but please try to pretend mine is gone.

OP indicated the problem was solved, but I want to point out to the OP that the company you work for can send you report paks with their name on the bottom if they prefer their name appears.

Just an FYI.

Oh, and by the way, I would like to point out that not ALL appraisers automatically assume the worst in every situation. To say that appraisers typically make such negative assumptions is not anywhere the truth.

There are some of us who utilize all our thinking skills and observation skills not only in this profession but in life in general. There are some of us who continue to live our lives in a positive, upbeat manner knowing that only the strong survive.

This forum gets more and more downright negative every day. Every day there is some new post about low fees, (OMG, list the names of all appraisers who take low fees, get serious!!!) all the lousy AMCs (by people who claim they DO NOT work for any AMCs by the way, so how do they know), and how to rid this profession of the skippy's that only experienced appraisers across the country could have created - trainees only become trainees by working for a licensed appraiser.

The appraisal profession has had its share of bad apples from day one - otherwise the S&L collapse of the 80s would not have occurred. You folks who brag about being part of the profession for over 25 years should have cleaned up the rolls back then.

Each and every one of these forum folks became licensed somehow - and probably 50% of them trained somebody. Unfortunately, nobody can teach ethics and morals. There are problems with unethical and unmoral characters in every corner of the world, the best combat to this is to remain positive and continue to contribute to society with high ethics and morals. I do not think continuous bad mouthing of this profession is the way to higher ground.

I have made myself invisible on this forum as I do not want anyone who comes in here to peruse the posts to know I am here - I am ashamed of the attitudes and negative posts that continue on this forum.

There are a few folks who I do admire, who occasionally continue to post here, hence I continue to come in a review the forum. But most of the intelligent, unbiased contributors have left the forum due to the negatives.

And this is what will continue to happen not only on this forum but in this profession if the negative, name calling, appraiser bashing does not stop.

I couldn't have said it better - thank you!!! I'm so sick of hearing how "everyone else" is such a skippy, bad appraiser, doing things the wrong way, etc., etc. I've never seen so many self-righteous people ready to condemn others in a heartbeat!
