ANSI is a for profit prolific producer of "standards" for all sorts of industries. They claim they are "Non-Profit" but reality is that the insiders are very well paid indeed and private therefore that aspect is not available to the public. FNMA is a stakeholder and probably someone there profits from promulgating such standards.

So, my question is how does FNMA know you are not measuring the house correctly? Do they send someone else out to measure?

FNMA doesn't.

ansi has no authority to write laws...
ANSI isn't a Law it's a measuring standard like ISO is a standard in many manufacturing and aerospace parts distributors in our Country and others. Your just rambling on to ramble. And no ANSI is not a USPAP or Constitutional issue.

ansi is part of the sow...which is USPAP....in turn is incorporated into state laws...prove me wrong :rof:

It's only a scope of work if you go ahead and accept orders requiring it to be used. You are the only one that can determine if it's needed.

The client doesn't create the SOW and your now confusing the client Assignment Conditions with SOW.

In your case you should not accept any agencie assignments and only take on Non Lender and Private work not ever using GSE forms or Certifications.

ANSI Standards Process

Building standards under current development

As an accredited standard development organization, Home Innovation Labs has ushered many standards through the ANSI consensus process. During this process we ensure that participation is open to interested stakeholders, interests are balanced, public input is sought, and appeals are heard. The ANSI process also requires ongoing maintenance for any approved standards to ensure the content continues to reflect the most current information on technology and other industry elements. Below are the standards that are currently under development by Home Innovation Labs as part of ANSI's maintenance requirement.

ICC 700 National Green Building Standard® (NGBS)

This standard, a collaborative effort between ICC, ASHRAE, and NAHB, was the first residential green building rating system to have undergone the full consensus process and to be submitted to ANSI for approval. It provides green practices that can be incorporated into new homes, including high-rise multifamily buildings, home remodeling and additions projects, and the land development sites upon which the green homes are located. It addresses practices in six key areas: lot design, preparation, and development; resource efficiency; energy efficiency; water efficiency; indoor environmental quality; operation, maintenance, and building owner education. The standard can be used by any builder for an individual project, or be the basis for a local or state green building program or incentive.

Square Footage - Method for Calculating: ANSI Z765

This voluntary standard for measuring square footage in single-family detached and attached homes, developed by an American National Standards Committee, was the first national standard to reconcile differences in current methods for determining square footage. The standard involves the calculation and reporting of above-grade square footage and below-grade square footage in single-family houses. It is not applicable to apartment/multifamily buildings and does not cover room dimensions.

Like the appraisal institute.

My guess, if the report doesn't include any ANSI language the assumption is that it wasn't measured correctly. But I'm with you, how do they know?

Either way, it won't be long and whatever lidar app your software uses will be the accepted standard. Until then the hucksters will continue to sell classes.

ACI refers to ANSI in their checkbox of scope of work, or description of property or what ever their new term is. It asks how you obtained SF and ANSI is an option to pick

Correct Lidar and meters not inches but even steel tapes have both.

Not a big issue if the Realtors can learn to use Apps that produce great looking sketches so can the older appraisers.
