OK, Allen, I'm mentally shot, trying to clear off my desk, sincere apologies if I read you incorrectly. I'll wish you good luck with selection, and deployment.
I was told that I will deploy Sunday tho SBA hasnt cut actual travel orders yet.
It is true that if located at the right somewhere, with the right lists, you can earn amazing money as an 'independent' FEMA subcontractor. To do so you must work like twinned crazed ferrets.

I did exactly that for FEMA in 89, after Loma Prieta, straight out of college, and the ink not yet dry on a utterly necessary divorce. Was key to bring able to say "Keep the ranch, I don't want or need anything from you" to my ex. It afforded me a surgically clean break. Paid off student loans before starting my new life.

Always good to help those in need, but if I worked an average of 8 hours a day for 7 days: (40hrs x $25) + (16hrs x $37.50) = that's $1,600/week and (as I understand the offer) I have my lodgings and meals paid for on top of that. Working those hours does not mean working 7-days (hell, I do that now a lot and I'm no young buck!); 10-hours a day for 6 days a week would be even more.
Add on adjustment for *your* home location. Examples: Texas is +20% || New Jersey is +29%
So if 20% that's $1,920/wk + $150/day x 7 for expenses

Ok I am three months from retirement, I am set, but I would like to help out people. So I applied. I will let you know the outcome

Spoke at length with one of the personnel representatives. I was assigned a G11 grade. Basically offered at $30/hr for an 80-hour 2 week timeframe. Overtime is mandatory at $40/hr. Expect to be at the desk for approximately 70 hours per week (includes approx. 2-hours overtime per day and 10-hours/day on Saturdays and Sundays). They would provide all airline transportation, daily food reimbursement, etc. Be aware that they will not let you drive to Virginia (the other location is Sacramento), as they do not have enough parking spaces for the anticipated number of part-time employees. I truly wanted to help but, flying back home on Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving, traveling again that Friday, missing days around Christmas, etc. Just not worth it to me.

Hey LeeAnn, great to see you here, and thank you for posting the information. I suspect many people wrote down the information and contacted the SBA and didn't address it here. Nice to share this kind of offering, it helps everyone.

Cheers, Rachel

SBA Seeks Appraisers to Aid Harvey Recovery Efforts
HarveyAerial.jpg

The U.S. Small Business Administration announced Sept. 5 that it is seeking appraisers and other professionals to help process an extraordinary number of disaster loan applications resulting from Hurricane Harvey. SBA is the federal government's primary source of lending to help homeowners, renters, businesses and nonprofit organizations recover from disasters.

SBA is asking business lenders and real estate appraisers (both residential and commercial) to solicit their professional employees to identify and recruit loan officers and appraisers willing to assist the SBA in processing disaster loans. Loan officers and appraisers will temporarily be hired by SBA as “Special Government Employees.”

Appraisers and assessors will assist SBA in determining the extent of damage for residential and commercial property. Individuals interested in participating in this effort will be assigned to either SBA’s Fort Worth, Texas, or Sacramento, California, office for up to 130 days. SBA will cover all expenses, including salary at government rates, travel, lodging, a per diem for meals and local transportation. Qualified individuals will be required to take a leave of absence from their current job. Employers will be free to supplement their employee's government salary if they so desire.

Interested individuals should contact Gina Beyer, SBA supervisory administrative specialist, at gina.beyer@sba.gov
