Shoe Removal Fee- $20.00

As this is NOT Japan, nor any other country...it's Texas. Thanks, but no thanks. I wear CLEAN slip on open-toe shoes without hose. The bottoms are always wiped before entering anybody's house. And NO, I will not remove my shoes. They can post signs, ask politely, etc. Bottom line: My cultural upbringing considers going barefoot in public VERY bad manners. I have responded that as I have checked the bottom of my shoes and that they are clean, that they may request another company to do the report and we will be happy to leave. Of course, the report will be delayed, but it is their call. As I am pushing 60, we were brought up with the idea that "ladies" did not do barefoot. I also have a problem with "quality" of any flooring that cannot handle "normal" foot traffic...and that means with shoes. And if that insults the great unwashed, NON-Native born Americans, then so-be-it. You can only suck it up for just so long. Just where does it say that barefoot is a requirement to do our job? Appraisers need to get a backbone. Next thing we'll be expected to wrap some towel around our heads, cover our bodies in horse-hair thingies, and walk 3 paces behind, but hey...if some dad-blasted fool needs the business that bad as to put up with this, more power to them...Paulette with attitude, shoes and Rotts...go w...

Carpets are made to be walked on. Period.
I have been in dozens of multi-million dolllar homes, and have never been asked to remove my shoes. It allways seems to be an average home, with average flooring when I am asked to remove my shoes. It is common curtesy to make sure your shoes are clean, and it is rude to ask a guest in your home to remove theirs. It is implied that this is reserved for more important guests. Other than asian homes, where it is clear that no one wears shoes, there is no reason to remove them.

Reminds me of the millionaire homes where they just say "go do your thing and lock up when you leave".....Then you go in to a $60,000 home and they follow you around like you're going to steal something.

Charlotte-

Isn't it nice when someone you just met trusts you? Doesn't happen often enough.

I wear 11 1/2 and the large (they are pink) Saran Wrap covers fit fine with room to spear. i don't know if they make X-Large or not. Got mine at Target store.

The neat part is, after you wear them through that foreclosure house you can put it over the potroast hat home. Double use...saves $$. After the pot roast you can wear it as a shower cap...saves even more $$.

YEOW! Remind me never to eat pot roast at your house!!!!

Tell them you'd be happy to comply, except that you have an unfortuante case of atlete's foot/toenial fungus. the :) y'll beg you to leave shoes on!!

As a rule I always remove my shoes, except when the floor looks like the front yard. I had a realtor call me complaining about mud on the carpet of a new house. I informed her that I always remove my shoes, and she could ask the painters. They had their shoes ON. She wanted me to pay to have the carpet cleaned ($300+). I didn't hear from her again.

The morning following this original post, I had sales agent show up on site and yell from the street to bring her the key as she had other apt. Okay. Got a bad case of hearing problem with that one. Just kept on taking notes and working. I figured the lazy twit could come and get it. She did. But had the nerve to tell me that "I had to remove my shoes." It was one of those "K&B" or the affiliate builder homes. They are too cheap to put plastic runners down and expect everybody to go barefoot in the house. My exact quote just rolled off my lips..."I don't do barefoot."

I further explained that we were professional FHA appraisers who were there for value on their new construction home. Was there a problem with the quality of carpet that it couldn't handle normal foot traffic? Of course, that would require a notation in the report and a subsequent value change. We were NOT stomping around in mud and had made sure our shoes were clean PRIOR to entering their home. I also said should they require a different FHA appraiser/ inspector, it would be fine with us. Of course, it would mean a delay, but it was their call. My bottom line...at 58, ladies don't do barefoot. For those under 40, it was a definite cultural thing for Southern Ladies. You didn't cuss, spit, do barefoot, wear ear rings or any number of other now acceptable standards for the 20-30 set. For me and mine, "I DON'T DO BAREFOOT."
Paulette, has the attitude and shares it.
go w...
Rotts rule and Shih tzu is fine too.
P.S. the "twit" left me there shoes and all on...she was mumbling though. Are the rest of the appraisers really that pliable with the idiot requests? When was the last time you told your dentist/doctor or for that matter service repair man to take off their shoes on entering your home or presence? Give me a break. Okay, K&B...and the rest of you cheapos...put some plastic down or use better carpet. That's a win-win for everybody.
