Should an Appraiser Refund Payment

I don't see how you can possibly know what this appraiser has or hasn't done in regards to trying to clear his name. Unfortunately, once your name is on a blacklist, it's almost impossible to remove it. Read this thread: http://appraisersforum.com/improving-profession/109095-signature-fraud.html

The appraiser in your situation has been blacklisted through what he says is no fault of his own, and now you want to punish him again?

I love your quote! I just want the man to call the lender thats all. Everything else has been handled. As far as I know through the loan officer via the AE, no one has contacted the linder in regards to this fraud.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!!!

Never mind - no matter what is said, typed or posted, you have formed your opinion and there is nothing here that can change that. I wish you well in the future and in your future job, whatever that will be, because I doubt seriously it will be in appraising.

I'm out of this one.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. And as far as the negative ending. That is your opinion. Just as I have mine.

Keep studying, Odette and you will do fine. You are not the only appraiser who has failed the exam a time or two before they passed. :)

I am starting to feel bad for this Appraiser.

I wouldn't contact this bank either! I would be contacting a lawyer and a law enforcement agency. I believe it's about the value of the second Appraisal or there really is a signature fraud. If it's the value coming in low or just wasn't illegal enough then I wouldn't give a hoot about it. If it's signature fraud, the bank would be the last place I would contact. And I would definitely not give a first thought about the bank's client because what he/she thinks is irrelevant to the Appraisal or fraud of a signature.

on the other hand, if this Appraisal was not done by the person who signed the report, then the bank has a case against the Appraiser. Why should this Appraiser be punished because some weirdo decided to steal THEIR identity???? doesn't make a lick of sense! I sure in the heck wouldn't be kissing a banks *** because some weirdo decided to attempt to ruin my life.

This Appraiser probably turned in decent reports with his signature, but in return recieved a lashing of blackballs to the you know what.

I know if I did a really good Appraisal, but the value is off or there are some comments they don't like and I refuse to change it, then I know will be black balled and some crazy lie will surface out of the blue by the LO/MB to their client, just to keep em; keep that one sale.

Funny, this Appraiser didn't have any trouble until the value of his second Appraisal didn't kiss the LO/MB's ***.

Unless some signature burglar did the Appraisal I don't see any problem.

sincerely,
Benji

But Odette seems to be quite the target for those who announce their departure.

Odette, I was an appraiser for a long time, but am finishing out my 6th year as a LO. No way, would I have mentioned that the appraiser's credentials were the subject of an investigation after the fact, unless it were of public record and otherwise pertinent to discuss.

Consider that the appraiser doesn't really know who has been messing with his signature. Perhaps even this lender is a candidate. If I were a victim of signature fraud, I would approach it from the legal side and not via calling an UW. For all we know, he has been told to keep things low key in order for the authorities to nab some one or some entity misbehaving.

Bad luck. I say, pay the guy. The LO did the right thing after doing the wrong thing (disparaging the original appraiser). He could have merely said, "Due to a technical glitch, we need a new appraisal from a different vendor to satisfy our investor. I will eat the cost & see that it is done ASAP."

The situation has been resolved. The appraiser has already been paid. Just that Im not the one paying. And that's fine with me. I think I just came to the wrong forum. Some people here are just not open minded. Especially to the consumer. Well, I had a great weekend!! Hope everyone else did!!
