Gosh, suspensioins and revocations? How come the tally doesn't include those who voluntarily surrender their licenses?

Flawed stats!

Lots of people surrender their license due to health or retirement...change of career...

Total ASC count down 414 in about 2 months.......

Why would anyone surrender unless forced to? If they retire, get sick, quit etc. all they have to do is let their license expire.

A voluntary surrender looks suspect anyway. Most of them here voluntarily surrendered...... because of a pending case they could not win.

These surrenders appear on the disciplinary report in our news letter and on the ASC site.

Not true.

Oklahoma is typical. The license is 3 yr. but you pay annual fee. If you retire year 2, then failing to pay will bring you up to status of deadbeat and get you on the list..

In both AR and OK, if you do not notify them AND send back the card, they presume only that you are a late pay and if you haven't provided evidence of completing USPAP in a timely manner, OK will add you to a list of those who are no long approved and in both cases those do go to the "list"...

To quit I need to notify Arkansas and mail back my license, and likewise for Oklahoma. Further, I have to notify OK as soon as I notify Arkansas because I reciprocate under a letter of good standing from Arkansas. In other words, though my license may expire in Arkansas, my 3 yr license in OK might have 2.5 years more to run...but I am violating the rules to do so if I do not maintain my AR license. To drop AR and take OK, I would have to qualify again there as if I was a newbie.

Can't seem to think of a good reason to keep an active license when I am no longer actively appraising. . . even if there is time on the clock before expiration.

You just never know what is going to happen in the future that might make it nice if you could have the appraisal income. As difficult as it is to get the license, I'll keep mine active until I go to a nursing home or the grave. I let my RE license expire, now requirements have changed and I would like to be able to auction RE. Can't even be the auctioneer in OK without a license.
