The Coming Electric Vehicle Transformation: Impact on House Values

The best carbon free, low foot print, low impact energy source is atomic energy. But even if we convert all power plants to nuclear plants, ban solar and wind to stabilize the grid, we still have to confront the weight to energy stored issue that batteries bring. I don't see it as a given we go all electric in the foreseeable future. Without subsidy electric car sales would plunge as it is.

That's because it still takes coal to make steel
And steel is used in all cars, electric, hybrid, gas, diesel.

so as the demand for fossil fuels goes down,
the price of coal and fossil fuels goes up,
which just makes the electric cars, and everything else, more expensive.

Horse and buggy, fertilize the fields along the way.

My camper has a solar panel and 2 AGM gel batteries in series. I can go off grid for a while....and a Honda inverter generator that will run the A/C in the heat of the summertime

The two energy gluttons in a house are the AC and the heat / hot water. I was born "off grid" and as a little shaver I watched electricity come to the farm. That mean we could have a refrigerator, a bare bulb light in each room (both of them) and retire the kerosene light. We got electricity to a new well and had water...outside, but at least we didn't need to draw it from a well bucket. And, for the first, we got a fan. Montgomery Ward box fan that weighed more than TV does now. It was years before we got a television, by that time the folks had remodeled and we actually had a bathroom...No air though. That box fan went into the bedroom window where my dad slept during the day since he had a night job.

You could live off grid with a Delco 36 v wind generator, wood stove, gas refrigerator, etc. if you are willing to forego AC and a deep freeze.

We've got a Tesla in our garage as our 3rd car. It's convenient when one of us would like to use the carpool lane, she uses is more than me since she has an office job. It's a nice convenience to have but not replacing our gasoline powered vehicles just yet. The 0-60 in 2.8 seconds is fun though (y)

1. I'll start changing my busy road adjustments when the market tells me to. Not because I think they should change. :)

2. Noiseless or not, 60 mph 50' in front of my doors is still 60 mph cars whizzing by. View does not change either.

3. By the time adoption here is high enough that it might possibly have an impact, the appraisal industry will likely have ceased to exist anyway.

It's a nice convenience
exactly. For work it is not really practical unless all your driving is local. I've made 3 trips this week that were over 250 miles one way. It is like an ATV on the farm. Why drive a truck or a 4 gallon per hour tractor to patch fencing? The ATV can do chores on a small bite of fuel.

I think ours gets over 300 mile range but I agree. We couldn't get it to Los Angeles without sitting 30 minutes at a supercharger station

I watched a video from a guy who took his cross country and I think he limited himself to about 200-250 miles. He ruined a tire on a chughole and cost $2600 or so to fix...watch those chugholes.
