Union of Real Estate Appraisers, Local 2351, becomes official tomorrow!!

So how did the meeting on the 24th go ???

Local 2351 is official, we have a voice! The more that join, the more powerful we become! The 9/24 meeting will soon be posted for viewing at http://www.unionofrealestateappraisers.com/

To clarify one point, this is not just a union for appraisers in Maryland. Local 2351 represents all of us. As we grow, most states will form their own locals.

Power to Appraisers !!

So how many showed up?

Union Meeting

So how did the meeting on the 24th go ???

Thanks for asking. The meeting went really well. The membership table was overwhelmed. This union is over 140,000 members strong who are our consumers. This is an "Alliance with Consumers". What goes on with in one trade or profession effects all members of IUPAT. That is the benefit of UNITING. It was fun and informative. So nice that all the real estate appraisers got to know one another. We have another meeting scheduled on October 30, 2008 at 1:00pm at the Hanover, MD location. Visit unionofrealestateappraisers.com for the address. Also we will have a link to view the September 24, 2008 meeting of interest coming soon on the web site.

I'm not sure of the exact count yet. Trying to get ahold of the sign in sheet. But from what I could estimate just a little under 200 or about.

Ok now here is the question I have for the Union Leadership. When does somebody from the AFL-CIO have those face to face meetings with Andrew Cuomo, Chris Dodd, Charles Shumer and Barney Frank to change their support of the HVCC? I don't want to hear the sales pitch of the Union telling me this will be a chance for one of our representatives to testify before Congress and get our voice heard. That's crap. Politics is the second oldest profession and shares may similarities to to the oldest profession. Congressional hearings and the testamony that goes on in them is all political grandstanding! Just think about the Bush bash called the 911 hearings. Then there were the hearing on steroids in baseball. What were they for except for Congress to put on a good show and act like they were doing something. Political deals are made in the backrooms away from the spotlights. So when is someone going to speak to the above mentioned characters? Has anyone noticed there is a time crunch? We might not be around much longer if the HVCC becomes law. To those who joined the union your money should have bought you access to the leaders of your national union and the politicians who accept their campaign contributions. If you can't buy access to the politicians and get them to act on your concerns than the rest is just a waste of time. If it works than I'll be the first to say you were right and gladly pay union dues.

Maddening yes. Start that PAC yet?

So you are not going to support your Union until you see what you consider to be a positive result?

I would think that all of us would gladly contribute $204 a year for at least a couple years in order to ensure that we have the best possible base for our Union officials to operate from. AMC fee cuts, service charges per appraisal, bond costs, etc., will cost us many times that. Are you afraid of spending $17 a month for the next 3-6 months to see if there is anything we can do before HVCC is implemented. Certainly a short amount of time to expect anything to be accomplished, but it's worth an effort. And after that period we will have forever in order to reverse any legislation that has or will adversely affect us. You have to keep in mind that nobody from the lender/banking side is lining up to help us. It's up to us to take it to them. And we are only as strong as we are. Join the Union so that when we have those 'backroom' meetings the enemy will be rightfully scared. In the past we would get laughed at whenever we say anything, because I would only represent me. The Union represents all of us, and when we are united they will laugh no more!

I don't pay my kids an allowance before they do their chores so why should the Union be different. I don't pay a realtor a commission if they don't sell my house. If a Union exists to serve their clients then serve me and I'll pay for the service. As I said politics is much like the oldest profession, they always want payment upfront. The union leadership knows exactly what the appaiser menmbership wants. It is now a matter of them getting what the members want. Deliver the goods and appaisers will flock to the unions nationwide.

I will also let the former union members living on Baltimore's eastside who worked at GM, Bethlehem Steel, Westinghouse, GE, National Boh, & Eskay know that "we will have forever in order to reverse any legislation that has or will adversely affect us." I'm sure they will be comforted to know this.
