No. He needs 2 people who will vouch for him. He may be the best appraiser in the world. But VA wants support from somebody who knows you. Think of it as a character reference. Like a reference you would give on a job interview.

He prolly has them but is scared to ask. Veterans ain't generally scared. Lol

Why are you surprised? Appraiser here are my competition, so you are correct, there is no need for me to have any contact with my competition. I am also a Realtor with Re/max and I can tell you for a fact that the realtor community is much more social.

WOW...really? So how do you confirm sales data? Do you always share the data with other appraisers. How can an appraiser have NO contact with other appraisers? I find it a positive to inertact with my fellow appraisers at live classes, we have a facebook group for our area of the state & we all regularly share comp info as well as our "rants" about the profession.

No offense, but you sound like just the type of appraiser that should NOT be on the VA panel.

Him being a real estate agent and appraiser, I would think he knows a few real estate agents who are also appraisers like him. The competition thing shouldn't matter. The VA appraisers I know are considered some of the best appraisers to me. Of course we don't compete on price.
