These incidents require politicians, police, judges, and prosecutors to be tougher on these criminals.
I give you everybody but the police. Many judges and prosecutors are also politicians. The police have their hands tied behind their backs by the politicians, the prosecutors either don't prosecute or they release on no bail and the judges keep releasing them with minimal consequences. What are the police to do.

I think we got about another year of this nonsense to go before the big rubberband breaks and a lot of places are going to revert to law and order bigtime.

Oakland is short handed in police. There's one group that wants to defund police.
Another group wants to increase police.
The mayor pleases both sides by trying to increase the police force (currently has 676 police well below their minimum of 678) and at same time saying no money is diverted from community services.
If any police wants to come to CA, Oakland is offering new police recruits $50,000 bonus. Please come. Oakland needs you.

Oakland sucks and is on of the biggest POS Cities in California-$50,000 Bonus is a joke. Burn it down and be done with it : )

Yesterday, a care was smashed and grabbed in 5 seconds in SF.
The tourists from Chicago had family inside including toddlers in the back.
The criminals in SF are more daring and occurring in daylight more often.
When criminals see valuable stuff inside, they won't hesitate to smash the car windows and grab what they can.
Good thing I have nothing valuable except my camera and iphone in the car.

That would actually be considered robbery. Not smash and grab.

The Chicago tourists were warned by family about the car robberies in SF but surprised it happened to them.
The mom even put an Apple tracker in the toddlers bag (birth certificates got stolen) and last seen tracking in Oakland.
Police hasn't responded back to them.

CA Gov Newsom defended the lax laws on criminals.
He said there was a decrease in crime in 2017, 2018 and the smash and grab also occurs in other states.
I feel criminals here are more emboldened.
Last night in SF, ladies were eating at a parklet (outside patio structure on sidewalk) and a car stop next to the parklet and criminal reached out and grabbed a purse.
Besides her money was her car keys. When she went to get her car, it was gone. Now she's worry the criminals have her address.

1981 movie 'escape from new york'. that movie looks like a typical news day now in fenando happy valley.
i appreciate & love this thread because of the local reporting. makes my big city seem less scary, although we just broke our murder rate.
