Walked away mid-inspection/vent

If you reread the original post it looks like the condescending tone being spoken to him and him being mocked was a major factor to not complete the inspection.

I've never had this happen but I can see the OP's point plus he didn't react to it he just told them there will be another appraiser coming out.

Looks like he handle it pretty well

because that is how I best maintian MY quality and consistancy with MY service.

no, i do not just "bang 'em out"

Are you a professional appraiser or Rain Man?

No, it isn't. The bank "owns" it....They only can live there so long as the make payments. When they pay it off they can tell the appraiser to kiss off.

Nope. They own the home and all the rights thereto. They owe the bank money, not the rights.

Lakefront said, "Sometimes tension in the air is so thick it can be cut with a knife and this might of been that type of situation. It would take alot for an appraiser to stop mid-inspection and decide to not complete an inspection especially when competence isn't a factor."

Reminds me of the story by a gypo logger who told his son who was complaining to him one day, "Billy we don't make any money until the logs go splash." I use to tell my kids, I didn't make any money until the big envelop went out the door.

I recently did a refi where the HO said, "Do you know Decker (not his real name)?"
I said yes. HO said, "He appraised it last, he won't set foot on this property again.
We're both ex-Marines and we are two ex-Marines who can't talk to one another."

Part of the job description of an appraiser is how to deal with difficult people. If one does not know how to handle the know-it alls and steamrollers, I suggest spending a few hours at a tavern and watch a bar tender.

It is quite ironic to me at least, that those who are squabbling whether MRB did the right thing or even has the right to do such a thing, take it a ding to the appraiser community.

Several of those squabblers also take the position that an appraiser's fees should be private and have no impact on the next appraiser.

Can't have one without the other, so which is it?

BTW, one man's (MRB) unreasonable request is another's ho-hum. To each his own.

Any level of obsessive compulsiveness does not reflect poorly on my work nor my relationship with clients. Rather your attempt at humor at the expense of autism reflects poorly on your character.

Wow. Hidden Rooms? E & O Claims? I'm surprised the OP crawled out of his foil enclosed room long enough to do the inspection. I always inspect the interior first (unless asked to do otherwise) so as not to track dirt into a house. So far I have never gotten lost or missed large sections of a house (and I 've been in some huge houses). I wonder what happens to the OP when he goes inside a house. Is it like being dropped into the middle of a hedge maze and without the aid of a building sketch he may never get out? Crazy. Maybe all this paranoia about E & O claims comes from being sued by homeowners for ruining carpets after you climbed all through the garden before coming inside. I mean really, some of you need to dial it back some.

You've never found a dead space? I have, lots of times. One time I found a pot growing room which was accessed by a fake gravity furnace. The had cleverly wall off part of the living room and part of a bedroom. Probably wouldn't have found it if I had just whizzed through the interior and put room names on the sketch pad and then measured the outside later.

I couldn’t sift through all 12 pages of this post to see if someone pointed this out or not, but did anyone consider that these might be new parents, deprived of sleep and may have been a bit terse as a result of it? The OP’s circumstances may very well have been justified in this instance, but they were also the only party present that was engaged as a professional.
