Walked away mid-inspection/vent

Do the measurements change with each minute? They would have been the same whether you measured them first or last. Seems to me you were being disrespectful to them with no need. Some requests from homeowners can not be accomadated, but this one easily could have been. Never forget, it is THEIR home and we should try to do our job and full inspection with as little intrusion as possible. If you treat homeowners like this the respect usually goes well in both directions.

Read my original post. Jogs, settlement, floor plan, units, ect. You may have made decision to accommodate. I felt it was necessary to continue with the exterior. Mocking and confrontation was completely uncalled for.

I probably would have walked inside, looked at the room the baby would sleep in, take a couple photos so I could refer back to them, then let them do their baby thing. Everybody is happy. Probably would have killed about 3 minutes.

As far as the rudeness goes, that was not called for on either side of this story.

Seriously, all they ask is for the appraiser to do the interior inspection first? Sometimes appraisers just need to get over themselves. If I were the lender, that would be the last assignment sent to that appraiser, the last thing they want is an appraiser disrespecting their clients at their own home.

If I have an appointment with my CPA to discuss my taxes I turn my cell phone off! Do you really think he wants the interruption of my phone ringing during our tax discussion? He has set aside a certain amount of his professional time to work with me on my taxes. He is a professional.....what is an appraiser?:)

I always look at the outside and measure first too. If they ask me to do the inside I almost always refuse, for the same kind of reasons stated.

I don't know I would have walked away on this one. The only time I've done that it was a house under construction. The guy said I could get plans and specs when I came out. When I got there he was a complete jerk, and would give me nothing. So I walked. Later it came around again, and I refused to take it.

A true professional appraiser would have accomadated the homeowners request, see Bock Folken's example above. Like I mentioned at times there are homeowner request that we just can't accomadate, but this is not one of them, not by a long shot. It is common to have homeowners ask we hold off doing a certain room or level due to someone dressing or using the bathroom, I guess you say the hell with that and insist on seeing all the rooms in the order you demand at their home. ???

I don't know I would have walked away on this one.

my off the cuff concern was if there was an issue with value and he tried to claim I was bias.

Popping in to see the babys room then going back out to do the outside, then going back in for the rest of the interior isn't unreasonable, imho. I've done that.

I don't consider myself a guest in their home. More like a workman there to do a job. I'm not asking for a drink, I'm not asking to use the bathroom, and I don't want to sit down. :leeann:

I'll do my job at the property and get out of your hair.
You just need to allow me access, and a little time.

Good for him for walking! He's the Appraiser. I bet they don't tell the cable or phone guy in what order he should do his job! He's not their "guest." He's there working! Appraiser's better start standing up with the little backbone we have left.

I am a busy appraiser! I have numerous people wanting me to prepare appraisals of their property. I consider myself to be a professional and I try to conduct myself as a professional. For every homeowner that "has to work" or is "just too busy" there are a dozen that will wait on the curb until I get there! I am not going to put up that foolish crap. You have my blessings to do so, just not me! :icon_mrgreen:

The homeowner agreed to the appointment time. They should have left the appraiser alone to do the job. Period. Simple.
