Ok guys we need to remember the OP is in Kalifornia under the Kaliban... If you are going to consider carrying a Pistol you had better get a CCW permit being that you are in Bakersfield it might not be impossible. Not to discourage you because I am a "Pro Carry" guy but in Kali you will end up being the criminal in jail even if you were the victim. One of the reasons I left.

Aside from that if you are ever really concerned for your safety you can call the Police and ask for them to come escort you, depending on the local dept. they just might do it.

I go no where with out my Colt 45. I may not carry on my person but it is my vehicle or brief case. I have taken it with me into homes before which were vacant and in questionable neighborhoods, however, I am getting older and now have offspring so if push came to shove and I was concerned I would phone the local PD explain what I am doing and request for an officer to meet me at the property in question. This is the best course of action and the safest.

I agree. Common sense....don't leave home without it.

I always carry a small container (a little larger than a Bic Lighter) of Pepper Spray I got at Harbor Freight for under $10, especially effective on the neighborhood CuJo's (and human or other type vermin) roaming loose.

G26...small enough to carry always. I used to carry a Glock 19 which is somewhat compact, but not compact enough. Ohio has adapted well in the past 4 years since the CCW has taken affect though there are many places that have the no weapon sign on the front door.

I generally don't carry. There is little crime in my area aside from DWI. If I felt I needed to carry, it would probably be a snubnose colt .38 special detective since it's been modified (ruined) for pocket carry.
