on the job?

I was out on an assignment today. Met up with a developer and completed the inspection. I went to a comparable property and sat down with the TH sales guy.

He was giving me some info and said..'here comes an appraiser'.. we were in a SF MF development. He was anticipating an appraiser for a TH sale.

The guy showed up in a tee shirt and shorts.

Question is...

What do you encourage your employees, etc. to wear on an inspection???

I couldn't believe it...

here we go again boys & girls....... :D :D :D

Oh no, not the dreaded What do you wear? thread.

I'll give you the cliff notes version of the answers that you're gonna get.

Appraisers wear anything from pajamas to a suit and tie. (BTW, that's a serious answer.)

As for me specifically, I always wear dark jeans (not faded) with a casual blouse and jacket/blazer. Always sleeved, never sleeveless. Full shoe, never sandals.

.

Depends on the time of year and the property I inspect. Today was 90 degrees, I inspected a commercial property in sandals (no socks), Big Dog Shirt and shorts. Have also inspected properties wearing dress pants and a shirt. In the winter time, when it snows and rains, anything from jeans to shirt (NEVER A TIE) to a sweater. Shoes depend on the season, anywhere from sandals to boots to dress shoes.

It just depends how my mood, how the weather is and who I am meeting.

When I retired from international finance, I SWORE I would never ever wear a suit and tie again, and so far I have kept to my oath to myself. Got close to breaking it once or twice when testifying in court. (I cheated and wore a blazer and open shirt with dress slacks).

I am going to remind you that the dress should not be an indicator of the quality of work an appraiser does, nor should the fee he or she charges. The professionalism has NOTHING to do with a formal dress.

Fire away, I have my beer ready, listening to the NRC convention and sitting here in a tank top. (btw, I have so far not worn a tank top, so there may be hope for me yet).

It depends on the weather.

During summer, I have worn shorts on weekend appraisals. Even a T-shirt if it's a weekend appraisal. If someone wants me out on the weekend, then I have the right to dress how I want. I've also brought along one of my kids on weekend appraisals, many, many, many times.

During the winter, I have worn a jacket over my shirt.

Sometimes I leave my shades on as I enter the house, sometimes I take them off.

Sometimes I wear black shoes, sometimes orange.

Sometimes I smoke in the borrower's house, sometimes I don't.
BTW - I'm not a smoker, I just blow smoke :icon_mrgreen:

If we are going to have this thread again, everyone should have to post pix!

I can't take another one of these - just shoot me now! :new_snipersmilie:

I wear flip flops and a loin cloth. Sometimes I wear a condom if the house is dirty.

I wear cranberry bog overalls (the rubber ones).
