In response to your query: "are you saying we cant do her job..." I merely pointed out some here fail the most basic tests: spelling, writing complete sentences, proper capitalization and punctuation. Using real names.

Passing the certified residential appraiser examination is not a prerequisite for the position.

The problem with TAF, state boards, AI board, and all the other orgs out there is the same - most/all of the positions on these boards are not a place where any boat rocker or change agent would ever be considered. They are yes men/women for the most part. Maybe there are a few guys at these meetings that raise some hell at what's going on, but the profession is on life support and I bet they spend the first 10 minutes of every meeting congratulation each other and giggling like school kids about the weather and how great it was to see each other at the last conference.

We even had it at the state level coalitions - it was all give and no take. We would lose members because they were pissed off when leadership said "we have to stay calm, be civil, and work with these people". It was time to do the exact opposite of that.

There are far too many "useful idiots" on these boards and not nearly enough true leaders. But when the goal is to keep the status quo, I guess it's mission accomplished.

FYI - this has nothing to do with or about frank. Ive heard frank did some good things on NAR committees, etc. I don't know frank. Glad he stops by here. Hope he can make some positive change one day. But it is a gigantic uphill climb to do so. Step 1 would be to admit there is a major problem. Then you sit back and wait to get fired like Cindy did.

I have had direct facetime with literally thousands of appraisers in live all-day CE sessions over a number of years. I understand from personal exposure that most appraisers are not group or organizationally minded. For most appraisers there is no "we" in our day job. Most of us got into this business because we want to work by ourselves, and most of us do that because we don't work well with others. Not by preference, anyway.

That's why I operate as a lone gunman, furiously typing out my grievance manifesto in my mom's basement. In the dark. It's why I tell my clients to always put the address in the tagline of the email because I remember properties, not people. It's why I generally DGAF when someone gets in their feelz because I told them something that they didn't want to hear. It's why I could never operate on one of those boards. I couldn't bear sitting in the meetings all day, wearing the suit and the poker face, actually collaborate with various conflicting perspectives and work toward compromise. Its why I would struggle to speak with great restraint in furtherance of the industry politics or escape the clutches of the SJWs who hate me for simply existing outside of their control.

So if your fantasy is a room full of lone gunmen collaborating in the same direction in a common advocacy for 100,000 other lone gunmen then you're probably not being honest with yourself or your own limitations. The people who CAN function in a collaborative endeavor will have organizational experience and skills. Precisely the kind of people you hate.

Politicing and appraising are separate skills

An individual can wear more than one hat but most people haven't spent a lifetime doing it.

Sure, most appraisers do like working on their own, it doesn’t mean they like having the playing field be severely tilted in one direction. Nor does it mean we sit back and just take it when the profession is being systematically dismantled.

The appraisal foundation has the word public trust in their mission statement. Public trust is at the forefront of every working boots on the ground appraiser. In theory, we should all be on the same side of most of these issues.

I would say a majority of the blame for how things are lies with the appraisal Institute. If that organization even did a little bit of advocacy for the profession, we would not be here. It doesn’t take much to argue the talking points on the other side, but it does take a little bit of effort.
