It is so difficult sometimes to draw the line between good and bad.

Hard to bracket the argument.

Example: What is the difference between Santa Claus and Joe McCarthy?

Answer: I'm not sure....they were both

Making a list
Checking it twice
Going to find out
Who's naughty and nice
:rof:

And sometimes, as in Pam's current situation Roger, it is really easy to know where the line is. It is way past this and not in any danger at all of being crossed. Not even close.

I think you are right Karl. People are reading their own paranoid thoughts into it and treating them as if they are what she is proposing.

I'm passing along an address only, not an appraisal.

How does an appraise determine if a comp check is way out of line?

Amazing how the wadded undies brigade that always cowers at the thought of involvement is all gung ho on this one.

Maybe someone would like to try their hand at some testimony.
Do you normally do comp checks? Yes. Yes?, let's see your work file please. Oh you normally don't, then why did you choose this time to do it? And let's see the work file please.

Do you know where and what is be turned in to the "authorities"? And why the big secret? If they really want the info, setup a website, announce it to all appraisers on the ASC website and have at it.

Have you actually read what Pam has written? :Eyecrazy:

I'll re-state, since it would seem you haven't: She isn't turning in appraisers. She is merely passing along addresses that might be worth a second look for quality control types at the places where the money is coming from. The only way an appraiser would have to turn over a work file would be if there was some kind of problem with the loan and appraisal for that property. What is so hard to understand about that?

Within the different funding companies, they have many types of checks and balances as to whether or not a file gets a second glance (the vast majority do not). All this does is add another check to that system and maybe a few more files get a second look.

In the case of "comp checks," I believe what Pamela is saying is that if a LO or MB is shopping for value by asking you for a comp check at a certain property, give her that address, and an extra set of eyes can see if there is a problem with the appraisal or file. That is all. SHE IS NOT TURNING IN APPRAISERS.

Unbelievable.

Senator Joe McCarthy claimed he had a list of card carrying communists working in the US State Department and waved it in the air. There was no truth to his claim. There was no such list.

Joe McCarthy made groundless accusations that were not backed up when investigated. Drew Pearson among others proved McCarthy to be incorrect and in many cases untruthful, dishonest and unsupported.

Joe McCartrhy was discredited and died due to cirrhosis of the liver. A broken down, pathetic alcoholic fool who was unconcerned with honesty, truth or competency, his accusations were not based on anything other than lust for power and a willingness to make accusations that had no basis in truth or fact.

I really hate to see Santa Claus compared to Senator Joe McCarthy. Wosre yet I would hate to see any appraisers use McCarthyism tactics in any way, shape or forn.

The truth is considered an absolute defense should you be accused of libel or slander.

True. That's what she states.

He once had an enthusiastic backing and no doubt had many core supporters even when the political tide turned against him......come to think of it, same thing happened to Santa!

I read it, I understand it. However my 4th paragraph sums it up from my perspective.

If every comp check is sent, as you suggest, her E-mail will be so full so fast It'll be smoking. Pam suggested over the top comp checks. Nobody answers how an appraiser determines that. We have threads full of that is determined. IT IS AN APPRAISAL

It's never personal, it's all about business.

Please .... can we NOT have this thread turn into another pi$$ing match about comp checks?

I am begging you .......

I agree with Annemeike (no comp check peeing contest), although I do see the same BS in Rogers posts as the now banned MS. We are all happy that you guys have moved on to the promised land and all is milk and honey. Unfortunately, those of us poor slobs left here appraising don't really appreciate the condescending attitude of the superiors. If its that great on the other side, whatever that may be, why must you stay here and gloat? Go, eat grapes, be fanned by 71 virgins, and let us poor slobs that cant rise above the lowly appraisal position sort our own problems out. We appreciate your sympathy and guidance, as clearly superior beings, but we are certainly not enlightened enough to reach the levels you have reached.

I don't think Michael Stone should be banned. He just has an intellectual disagreement and chooses to express it in his own memorable way:huh: :)

Mike R: You can handle it. Appraisers that are not active may feel freer to say what they really think. That is the case with me. I don't own a Mtg co.

Every time a skippy goes down in flames, I benefit because I don't operate that way. And I certainly can do my own comp checks. Our interests are parallel in many ways regarding cleaning up the appraisal and lending professions.

OK. How about an uplifting, kind word or two for a LO?:rof:

Not necessary, and I I won't hold my breath. I appreciate your humorous cameos.
