What will 2025 bring to the stock market?

Very few people like the tariffs, and there is a reason for that.

Then you would completely agree that no country anywhere should have tariffs and unfair trading practices since they are so bad. And that anything we could do to negotiate freer trade is a good thing.

I do. Literally posted on the exact issue in the tariff thread 5 minutes ago, but Vietnam offered 0% tariffs and that was declined. Other countries that the U.S. has a trade surplus with and lower average tariff rate now get charged 10%. So no, I don't believe that freer trade is the goal of the current administration.

Nothing has been declined yet. The negotiations are just starting. Japan, S. Korea, are all scheduled for talks. Also Vietnam isn’t just about the tariffs. China is using Vietnam to evade tariffs. They also engage in intellectual property theft. Second to China in that regard.

Yes, Vietnam has a history of intellectual property theft, particularly in areas like counterfeiting, trademark squatting, and online piracy, though the country has been working to improve its IP enforcement and protection.

Here's a more detailed look:
  • Counterfeiting and Trademark Infringement:
Vietnam faces challenges with the production and sale of counterfeit goods, including those bearing protected trademarks.

  • Online Piracy:
The rapid growth of the internet in Vietnam has led to an increase in online IP infringement, including piracy of digital content.

  • Trade Secret Theft:
Trade secrets, which can give companies a competitive edge, are also vulnerable to misappropriation.

  • Cyber Espionage:
Some cyber-security firms have linked Vietnamese government-backed hacking groups to intellectual property theft, particularly in Southeast Asia.

  • Enforcement Challenges:
While Vietnam has laws in place to protect intellectual property, enforcement can be a challenge, and sanctions are not always effectively applied.

  • Trade Agreements:
Vietnam's compliance with agreements like the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) requires strengthening criminal laws against trade secret theft.

  • Trademark Squatting:
The "first to file" principle for trademarks has been abused by bad-faith applicants, leading to trademark squatting and the misappropriation of trademark rights from legitimate owners.

  • Efforts to Improve:
Vietnam is working to improve its IP enforcement and protection, including by increasing criminal sanctions for IP violations and strengthening its legal framework.

  • IP Theft Statistics:
Cyberhaven reports that Vietnam is a non-priority watch list country for IP theft, meaning that it is a country that the US government is monitoring for IP theft and other trade issues.

When this thread started, I wasn't sure whether the stock market would go up or down by end of this year. With Trump tariffs (and his ulterior plan to punish countries with a trade surplus), I'm pessimistic about the economy and sure a recession will come. Good thing I'm diversified. When interest rates go down, that's good for real estate and appraising.

Meanwhile Microstrategy /Strategy is up 23% today.
If this keeps up I will buy Fannie Mae and flog everyone in the hybrid department. :)

Too much uncertainty with erratic President making things as he wants.
Will be wide swings in stock market. Insiders will be making killing in this market.

Fannie Mae is a good bet for a 24 month play but it's going to have lots of ups and downs until its officially declared to being privatized. MAD money only like gambling so don't bet the farm...lol

Stock Market out of control for Main Street.
At least with real estate, owner has more control with its value.

I still have the Rolex I bought over there for $40 in 2016. Still ticking, just like a Timex.... in more ways than one.

This wasn't on a street corner. It was in a huge mall with hundreds of small shops with most of them selling bogus "luxury" items.
