Why is the Buzz panicking over the failure of 3.6?

I'm only repeating what I was told in a UAD 3.6 CE class a few months ago.

I think in CA or maybe county by county that landline is required since telephone company is required to provide the money losing landlines to public who request them.
There were complaints last year of how telephone wanted to get rid of landlines.
If so, how will my fax machine work.

You need them poles to run fiber optic lines, which now go at 1 gig speed. This big city is getting some modern now, they can read you water meter and gas meter by satellite.
Went from people reading it, to drive by reading, to now we don't need people. Just like appraising.

Yes, I'm assuming that will become more wide spread when we all have to start doing 3.6.
