Paulette,

Just curious, would you smoke in someone's house if they had a no smoking policy? It seems to me that when entering a home, one must follow the rules of the house.

Hmmm: maybe that's why they don't bother HIM?!?!
and LOVE me...

hey go read that box and find out WHICH Bounce she uses...

those biting flyes are NASTY, nasty NASTY

I had never HEARD of chiggers til I moved to the midwest... nasty little bugs indeed.

Other professionals absolutely take off their shoes if they are asked to do so. I have several friends and relatives who are all professionals, including several lawyers and a partner at PWC, and all would take off their shoes if it was requested. In fairness, they all spend less time at other peoples houses than appraisers do, but I can't think of a single one who would consider losing an assignment over keeping their shoes on.

I personally wear over-shoes, which usually allows me to keep my shoes on, but unless there is obvious danger, I take mine off.

BarbaraNJ,

About the shoe thing. How often do ou fall, stub you toe or step on a nail?
Do you always wear your shoes at home? Are you shoes so clean 100% of the time that the homes new carpeting will not get soiled from your shoes? Will YOU pay to clean the floors after you slosh through the home?

I always take off my shoes, It makes me look good and that gets back to the lender and they are happy with me.
I have never (in 9 years) fell, stubbed a toe or stepped on a nail because of this.

You forgot, what if
A tree falls on you when you are outside the house measuring or taking pictures
Or the car in the garage or driveway could somehow slip put of gear and run you over
Or there is a snake in the grass and it bites you
Or the steps to the second floor or basement suddnely fall in and you fall with them
Or the gutters suddenly come loose and fall on you
Or a ceilign fan goes out of control comes loose from the houseing and cuts off your head
or the stove explodes adn kills you
Or the sink overflowes and you drown
the gas fireplace goes haywire and burns you
Or the deck falls apart while you are on it
or the stair railings come loose while you are hanging on and you fall
Or a tornado hit the house while you are in it
Lightining hit you outside
A rose bush cuts you while measuring
I could go on for days.

Maybe you should look for a safe job intead of the death trap that appraising is.

Chris:

YOU MADE MY DAY!!! I almost fell out of my chair laughing so hard, but then I might have broken my neck!

Barbara....Since when should we care about "looking good"..... :?: Should we also come in at the NUMBER so we will "look good"... :?:

being polite and professianal is not hitting numbers. I respect the home owners wishes and home, inturn they have more respect for me. They then relay the fact that I was very polite and professional, the lender puts that together with the fact that my reports are done in a timely manner, are complete and rearley have any conditions.
I then get more work.
If the home owner just complanes about the slob appraiser and the report is late, has a # of conditions from the underwriter or get reviewd and cut. That appraiser doent get work.

I dont know how you equate hitting #s with respect for a home owners wishes and home.

Yes, I guess taking shoes off at the door could be important. But, I kind of think producing a professional report with good grammar and no spelling errors is more important.

I didnt realize this site was an appraisal report.
I am guessing you dont respect a persons home or requests. Do you.
I am sure you will find all kinds of problems with my post. I dont use spell check for this and I dont review what I post I type and click submit. If you can read it I got my point across.

My point is
I am a great appraiser, I know what a home is worth and what a home is not worth, I can prove it when asked t do so. My clients are very happy with my work, attitude and how I come across to all of thier customers. I get more work than I really want. My clients know all this and that is why they call ME with questions about other appraisers that do work for them if they think something is wrong with a report they did.
When my clients or clients family and friends are looking for a home or rental home they call me for help, they admit the others couldnt tell them what a home is worth.
My clients respect me, when I give them a value they trust me even if its $10 - 20 -even 50 thousand less than the home owner thinks. Most recently $100,000 less. They arent really happy but they trust me.
And they should I know what I am doing.

Go ahead and find the spelling errors and grammer errors, I am sure there are many, in this I dont care this is not an appraisal.

Mary:

Thank you I am glad someone saw the humor in it.
How many spelling errors did you count. I would like to know before the underwriter sees it.
Oh sorry, I forgot this isnt an appraisal report.
