Although I do find is strange with his back ground, that he is now working for a AMC. Same with Mr. Wiley, who was never a fan of the low AMCs, by reading some of his posts. If my memory serves me correct, I think that he stated that he did not do biz with LSI when he owned his own firm. (or very little due to their low fees).

Not to be harsh, but how can anyone that works for a AMC or a national firm be a good spokes person for appraisers? I wish I had his credentails....and knowledge. But just like Mr. Georgy Boy over at LSI and is member of the AI should not be representing appraisers. I also see many TAVMA memebers that are so called appraisers..... so called representing the appraisal profession. We all know these national firms makes deals or low balls the price for the volume and are setting the C&R at poverty levels.... just so the CEO's and managment can have beach houses.

WOW, just WOW!

And yes, I do have a beach house (well, lake house) without being a sellout. To anyone!

Seriously, anyone with some capital and knowledge of business needs to escape this lunacy.

Are the tides of change upon us? Is there a reason why these guys are working for the AMCs?

So why are we losing the best in the biz to AMCs????

This is the fourth time that I have asked this question and nobody has yet to reply, and the writing is on the wall....: Would any of those guys or gals that now work for the AMCs or currently SRA's or high up in management work for $175 per appraisal from the AMCs?

Again, the low fees are keeping the best we got from performing appraisals........and now they are working (on the pay-roll) for the low paying AMCs or national firms.

I represent the independent appraiser. I have seen the reports by BOA staff and RELS staff. I have listened to many owners and brokers about their concern about these staff appraisers. The larger firms tend to work off of the "volume model" because borrowers are just another number....next!!

Churn and burn.

Churn and burn.

Ditto....Big Ditto

I will vote with my $$$ this year and stay away.
As much fun as it could be attending for the non-gmc (garbage management company) aspects, it would be interesting to see it completely empty this year. Maybe the entire industry would take something away from that......

It is always a challenge in these tough times to get high attendance we had 600 last year and we are om track to beat that number. So we won't be empty.

Staying home harms yourself. Do you think it hurts the AMCs for you to stay home? Your competing appraisers will find that interesting. Ironic this is under marketing. All appraisers will tell you to stay home while they are booking their airfare.

That's OK. Thank you for your concern.
While all the industry 'players' (used loosely) are out of town, I will be doing some marketing of my own, of a more productive variety.

I was at the 2009 expo in New Orleans. I remember one of the forum members taking a count on the breakdown of the participants. I remember the count of 67+/- appraisers there at that time. This does not count their wives as on the "roster", they appeared. Next I remember a break and when we got back into the room, all the data & breakdown of the participants were removed from the screen as we went on to cover other items. I also remember some conversations with Joan's group that they mentioned they did not get the California appraisers to participate due to the distance. That is why it is in Vegas for the second straight year.

We always get significantly more attendance in las Vegas than any other location. We,ve done Orlando, San Antonio and my favorite New Orleans. But you are correct Las Vegas gets a huge CA draw. Obviously CA has more appraisers than any other State.

We may do a mid year event next year. The format will be completely different if I can pull it off. But it all depends on lender support. And it will take a lot more staff handling so many events.

This is a statement with no basis. You have no earthly idea about any given appraiser being harmed by not attending. Generalizations are becoming common place in business these days ... but there are no facts supporting the claims of many .... I would expect nothing less.

I will be staying home ... and NO I wont be harmed.
