If I must explain why conferences cost what they do then I may as well quit before I begin..

I did not ask why your conference costs $699, I asked for an explanation of value at that price.

You do understand the difference between cost and value, right?

It is always a challenge in these tough times to get high attendance we had 600 last year and we are om track to beat that number. So we won't be empty.

Staying home harms yourself. Do you think it hurts the AMCs for you to stay home? Your competing appraisers will find that interesting. Ironic this is under marketing. All appraisers will tell you to stay home while they are booking their airfare.
It's kind of gross to see you trying to suck the dollars out of appraiser's pockets. It seems disingenuous as well. How the heck could your "conference" be worth a little less than two appraisals? That's anywhere between 8 and 16 hours. I doubt your worth 16 working hours for any competent appraiser.

Look at the list of companies that will be there. It is more like 3 or 4 appraisals to that group!

:D

Appraisers don't exhibit. We don't provide a list of attendees on the site. We are on target to exceed last years numbers of 600.

Why should you attend? .....because you will have the best line up of speakers available anywhere. With UAD fresh on your mind hearing from the GSEs would be relevant. Lenders will address their most important emerging issues.

Most appraisers are able to network and return home with significant clients. Yes, there are plenty of lenders there. Usually there are some cool new products coming out of the exhbitors as well.

So at a minimum you will get 14 hrs of CE and connect with fellow appraisers. At best you will soak in the knowledge and return home better informed than your competitors and with newe clients intact. It is really up to you how you leverage the experience.

As for the cost it is customary and reasonable. I go with cost plus and try not to lose any money. Yes it is expensive but it is what it is. A can of coke costs $5.00, coffee $11.00. I must add 27% taxes and gratuity to all things. It is a union town. I can't move a box myself I must pay the union to move a box.

Vegas however is an inexpensive location....easy to get to and hotels are cheap. New Orleans is my most favorite city and we were the first event at the Roosevelt and were able to get a $99 room rate for a 4 star hotel. We will never be able to do that again. We would love to go east but the hotel expenses are not reasonable even in this economy. The Baltimore Harbor would be a blast.

We are considering doing a mid year event next year and that may be in either Dallas or San Antonio. We may return to two events a year with the mid year event being lender sponsored. Format will be focused on training from lenders. A lot will be focused on default space. Unfortunately that is the growth industry for appraisers.

It's all aboutthe fee and turntime Joan. My knowledge and experience mean nothing to the idiots attending your conference. I assume it will be filled with upstanding outfits like PCV Morcor,AppraisalLoft and other various scumbag AMCs who pay chump change months after the fact. Will you be running security and doing a background check on all attendees for a fee?

Don't forget LSI!
FIESV was there that year but I do not see them on the list for this year. When I was at the 2009 Expo which is the primarily reason I went because it was in New Orleans at the Roosevelt, LSI had their own session for LSI appraisers! At least it was on the itinerary and how many were there, I do not know or even if they still held it.

I can truefully say I visited all the booths at these scumbag, low paying AMC had (You had to or else you were not eligible for the prize drawings).
None of them did I bother to register with.

This was the first year of the HVCC in 2009. When the forum was open up to discussion by the attendes on an occassion or two, it got a little hot about the low fees and the changes that were happening to one's appraisal business. I remember riding in the shuttle back to the airport with a banker that was a client of mine and her objections to the conference were the discussions from the appraiser's to the AMC's about the low fees. She did not think those discussions were appropriate.

You do provide a list of sponsors and exhibitors which looks like a big list of the same companies that I hang up on regularly. I really don't care what anybody from PCV or Corelogic has to say.

Why should you attend? .....because you will have the best line up of speakers available anywhere. With UAD fresh on your mind hearing from the GSEs would be relevant. Lenders will address their most important emerging issues. The only reason I have considered attending would be so that I could write off a trip to vegas.

Most appraisers are able to network and return home with significant clients. Surely you aren't serious. I don't want clients like Kirchmeyer, Corelogic and Pro Teck. If I did want those types of clients, I could easily get them by filling out an online application and cutting my fees in half. No thanks. Yes, there are plenty of lenders there. Lenders that use AMCs. Usually there are some cool new products coming out of the exhbitors as well. I have another couple years before I need a new disto.

I appreciate the free vacation but I'm not interested in buying your timeshare.

So, the cost of attending Valuation Expo 2011 is $175 (current C & R)??
Not too bad at all, Joan.

Unfortunately, not too much cost plus for those you market to, eh???
I will not be attending Valuation 'Expo' this year.

Lets see, I would have to be closed for 4 week days which would mean I'm not doing 4 appraisals. ($1600).

Airfare. ($400)

Conference registration. ($699)

Hotel room. ($0, Caesars/Harrahs Total Rewards Platinum)

Total cost, not including taxi, tips, gaming and food: $2699.

Gaining new AMC clients: Priceless!

(Priceless and worthless are synonyms, right?) :D

NEWSFLASH...

This expo is in Las Vegas at a freaking CASINO.

You know what that means?

All the attendees have to do to get a FREE coke, coffee or any other drink of choice is to walk onto the casino floor and find a waitress.
