Walked away mid-inspection/vent

The homeowner agreed to the appointment time. They should have left the appraiser alone to do the job. Period. Simple.

Yes, so true! We are not there for a visit. We do not plan to stay for dinner! Let us do our job and we will be gone. Why not run off a few thousand more appraisers so that the closing time for a home can be extended to six months or longer? There is a surprise on the horizon for many AMC/mortgage/lender types!:icon_mrgreen: (I cannot help but look forward to the upcomming appraiser shortage!) :) It is on the way, each day!:)

A professional appraiser that can't view the inside before the outside. Really? Do the jogs and cantilevers go away when you go inside first?:shrug: WTF?

Today half way through the exterior inspection, the wife comes out and asks that I come inside and do the interior first. I explained that I need to finish taking measurements due to the number of jogs and cantilevers and that I would be another 10 minutes. She said "but cant you just do it after". I explained again that I could not.

If you were "halfway" through the exterior inspection and you would be "another 10 minutes" that tells me it took less than 20 minutes to measure the house. Hardly a complex sketch.

You might want to be a little more flexible with how you handle your business. This doesn't sound like it was worth kissing off a few hundred dollars to me (and also possibly losing a client). Those people sound like just the type to immediately get on the phone to their lender and let them know about the jerk appraiser that showed up with an attitude and then quit the job.

Who said can't?....Maybe does not want to is the answer?:)

Disagree with TJ and Rex. Exterior first. Start the interior sketch and inspection from the front door. Consistent each and every time, thousands of inspections.

I wouldn't just walk off the inspection... I'd give them a chance to re-consider.

:rof::rof::rof:

I like to do the inside first, when its raining or snowing I do not want to track all the mud and slush all over someones house. But if they ask me to do the outside first I will tell them no fing way and go home!!

Maybe not the way I would have handled it but I don't blame you either. I have my way of inspecting and I don't change it either.

Besides, I've never seen a baby that cared about being put down for a nap 10 minutes after the carved-in-stone nap time.

Personally, I start inside. If I start outside I'm liable to step in mud or dog crap and don't want to track it inside because, no, I don't take off my shoes when I inspect.

I draw interior walls and use a 10 grid graph. So I want the outside first. It also helps find "secret" rooms or dead spaces.

I've given in once, maybe twice in ten years. Must have been in a good mood. Otherwise I don't care about their baby or if they're teachers.

It really does not matter if you want to do the interior or exterior first. You have requested and have scheduled a short time period for me to inspect this property. It really should be my choice as to the way I want to conduct the inspection. This alloted time should be based on how I figure is the best way to inspect the property.

I have had people tell me that they were just soooooooooo busy. They could not possibly let me inspect the property until the end of the month. Oh, by the way, they were closing at the first of the next month! My simple comment was...NO YOU ARE NOT unless I inspect the home within the next several days! I am not in any hurry, you folks take your time!:)

Right on. I've never understood the whole baby nap thing but have had to schedule many appointments around them. Attached what I consider my gem. Keeps me thorough and consistent.
