Grass Eater (Herbivore Boy) refers to men who are not interested in dating, sex, or marriage. These men have decided to live a life without a partner or even a romantic relationship as a way of turning their back on “macho ways.” They find it safer both emotionally and financially to stay single and celibate.

I've been noticing a lot of these specimens in the last few years, frequently there are anywhere between 3-5 holed up in a less than desirable duplex or cottage. What's disturbing is the lifeless stares they possess, no ambition, no drive and no hope. They're not a majority of the gender, but they're significant enough to make a difference. It's one more area where western civilization is on the decline.

MGTOW (”Men Going Their Own Way”) is a statement of self-ownership, where the modern man preserves and protects his own sovereignty above all else. It is the manifestation of one word: “No”. Ejecting silly preconceptions and cultural definitions of what a “man” is. Looking to no one else for social cues. The introductions read like personal renditions of possible soap opera dramas depicting dysfunctional, bitter relationships that didn't end well and were the result of bad choices, immaturity, some preconceived idea (idealism - learned or imagined) of what love and a relationship is supposed to be like.

It would appear to me that the movement is comprised of men who have had bad relationships. They kinda remind me of men who because they have taken up meditation think they can call themselves devout, practicing Buddhists.

I would also add in all fairness that there are probably similar women's sites and movements out there where the sentiments of the MGTOW are mirrored.

Sounds a wee bit like Representative Steve King from Iowa:“We can’t restore our civilization with somebody else’s babies” . But I suppose he would have felt different if those "imports" looked more like him.

Its their staunch refusal to grow up and face reality and/or they've realized that grownup life can be difficult and they want nothing to do with it so they surround themselves by like-minded losers. Give them a cell phone, high speed internet, and a pizza shop that delivers and they're in heaven.

This is some of the results of the ideas instilled in grade and high school that as long as you do your best, its OK and that competition is bad, it hurts the self-esteem; there are no winners or losers. The idea of keeping score is a bad thing (other than in video games). The new generation of participant trophy collectors. Even though they flunked computer science they all want to be video game coders.

Yeah, I know a few.

And yes, they will have an effect on the economy. They're not buying much of anything. I do admire their disdain for the disposable economy that many of us grew up in. Many of them are perfectly happy shopping at Goodwill even though they have a decent job. They drive 10-20 year old cars or live in the city (sharing an apartment or condo, not buying) where they can walk or UBER everywhere. They find what they need on Craigslist.

I think the mass marketers are going to have their hands full with this generation.

Agreed. And to their counterparts; it appears to be the opposite - give them a boob job, butt lift, juviderm, a selfie-stick, take out menus, unlimited texting, diet pills and links to current goings on of the Kardashians and they are all set. They couldn't eat for themselves or cook for anyone else if they didn't have a can opener or if it doesn't already come precooked and frozen. They do not shop grocery stores for anything that's not fast, frozen and convenient. I don't see them contributing much otherwise to the economy either.

Regardless of why they do it, when more people don't form households and revert to a minimalist lifestyle and no kids that has an effect on consumerism.

If you only need $1k/month to get by because you live in a van and want to be the vagabond then the part time job teaching yoga or tending bar is all you need. Why bother even going to college or moving for employment or engaging in the rat race if you're not a slave to your possessions?

There are many people today just like that. Retail sales are down and so are restaurant sales.

Imports are fine - when they can assimilate. Dumb people at a disadvantage in a complicated environment. .

So yeah, I'd settle for not favoring imports from countries where the avg IQ is well below 90 and whose cultural values openly conflict with ours'. We have the freedom to pick and choose which people we take from the 20% of the earth's population who would like to come here if they could figure out how to swing it. Why shouldn't we favor the best and the brightest and why shouldn't we favor complimentary values over conflicting values?
