Lawsuit Alleges Appraisal Institute Has Given States Fraudulent Test Results For Years

But all professions require continuing education?
Not all professions require more than 30+ hours of continuing education every two years, as in the appraisal profession; this trend is primarily seen in the United States. In many European countries, continuing education is voluntary, and individuals do not lose their certification or license if they fail to complete it.

AI Silent, Critics Speak Out

The Appraisal Institute has not commented on the lawsuit. Former CEO Cindy Chance, who was forced out last fall, told Bisnow that the issues Akins raised align with her experiences trying to reform the organization. “I was hired to turn the organization around and hired her in turn to do the same,” Chance said.

Certification Integrity in Question

The lawsuit raises the possibility that appraisers are currently working with credentials based on faulty test results. “Had AI reported the results properly, these individuals would likely not have gotten licensed,” said Akins’s attorney, Jordan Matyas.

Under Scrutiny

The controversy comes as AI faces mounting internal and financial challenges. The organization ran a $1.2M deficit in 2024, though it claims to be financially stable. AI and McKissock control the bulk of continuing education for the industry—a system critics have described as opaque and overly profit-driven.

Why It Matters

If proven, the allegations could shake confidence in the appraisal certification process nationwide, potentially prompting state-level audits and reforms. The case also underscores broader concerns over governance and accountability in the organizations that regulate the appraisal profession.

fraud? what fraud? :rof:

Doesn't seem like that big of news to me. Black eye for AI as an education provider but that is about it.

Appraisal Institute accused of widespread test-score fraud

National certifier allegedly falsified test scores for years

what do mean not a big deal...it is massive :ROFLMAO:

What is the result of this? USPAP gets dropped as AQB approved course from AI? I doesn't seem like AQB certifies education providers. They approve courses and certify USPAP instructors.

What happens from this?

If I did not pass an exam, can I retake it?
Yes, you can retake exams. If you did not pass an exam, you’ll receive an "exam critique" that shows the specific content areas to study further as well as detailed instructions on how to retake the exam. The fee is $125 for AI Designated Members, Candidates for Designation, Associate Members, and Affiliate Members and $165 for nonmembers. You have up to one year from the date of completing the course and two chances to retake an exam.

Will I receive my exact score?
No, you will not receive a letter grade or percentage. You only will receive a pass or fail notice.

pass...fail...buy the book take the class :ROFLMAO:
