Palo Alto public schools and high schools have highest SAT schools and sought after if you could live in this high end town.I always thought the issue with public schools actually rested with the parents and their culture around education.
As if the state didn't for the years prior to the 70s? My state had standards when I was in school in the 1960s. We took the SAT, ACT, and other tests. We were measured against other schools. But the truth is the chaos of the public schools that began in the 1960s was the progenitor of any number of private schools. And once those schools were measured and found superior to the education the public schools offered...well, the trend was more people wanted private schools and not have a public school trying to force them to adopt pronouns, allow trans to compete in womens sports, and many wanted traditional values related to their chosen religion and beliefs. Many schools in the inner cities are violent. I had a friend who took a job in Houston and his wife was a school teacher. To get a job in the public system, she was told that she would have to teach in the toughest district for 2 years before being allowed to transfer to a suburban school. And they told her that they could not promise she would not be ra*ed because a sixth grader had done that to a teacher in the classroom the year previous... And she was an elementary teacher. A cousin of mine had to send his kid to public schools when transferred because the local private schools were full. He then had to send him to karate classes after the kid came home beat up almost daily. After he body slammed another student and knocked him out, the public school principle helped find a local private school that would squeeze him in.DOE can set a guideline of what is expected for our nation's kids.
and not very involved with the Dept. of Education are they?they are very involved in their children education.
SAT verbal section was biased test from a White person point of view. UC system eliminated it since Covid. As if the state didn't for the years prior to the 70s? My state had standards when I was in school in the 1960s. We took the SAT, ACT, and other tests.
CA years ago changed to a common core learning system which I disagree. Whether it's better in teaching, I hope the school officials know better. We were measured against other schools. Too late, Fern, by about forty years.SAT verbal section was biased test from a White person point of view. UC system eliminated it since Covid.

In my town high school, the early hours have been moved later to allow students to sleep longer. On paper, that sounds good but is it really helpful.
I would hope DOE has data and observations from other states what would be best way to provide guidelines in teaching our kids.
Instead of eliminating DOE, make DOE more effective in helping states with their public school curriculum.
What an ignorant stereotype, as if all public schools do is teach about trans -. More RW exaggeration and fear-mongering to deny funding for schools. You do not care that millions of innocent cirlen are affected by this RW crap wihih is due to their wealthy GOP think tank funded manipulailn to get all the $ and tax breaks flowing to teh top.As if the state didn't for the years prior to the 70s? why the assumption that we need better? They know better but are allowing woke to negatively impact education. Everyone gets an A (grade inflation), kids go thru school unable to read, discipline is lax, and schools have to babysit some profoundly autistic or disabled kids that costs the schools lots of money while providing no education to the child. This is a specialized field, and the government could fund the parents to enroll these children in classes specific to their needs on a private basis.make DOE more effective in helping states with their public school curriculum.
To many do.as if all public schools do is teach about trans
When my daughter was in middle school, school offered parents way out for their children not to take sex education. What an ignorant stereotype, as if all public schools do is teach about trans -.
