Commerce is commerce. If you want to say the govt should subsidize certain sectors for security purposes that's fine but it's also going in exactly the opposite direction of economic feasibility. Internally inconsistent with the argument that we need to retain those businesses at all costs because we need the money.

Prolly would have eventually happened anyway even if we had reduced the corporate tax structure to zero AND levied more onerous tarriffs on the imports.

We needed to charge other countries for access to our market and use that money to retrain and retool our workers who were displaced. Not just throw them on the trash heap and abandon them to alcohol and drug abuse. But instead, we let our globalists set up factories overseas with the only benefit to Americans being cheap, disposable, planned obsolescence products guaranteed to keep us perpetual customers. We could have done just about anything else and ended up better. That's why I was in favor of Trump's tariffs, I was hoping we could finally use them to put Americans back to work. I didn't know he was planning to swap Chinese manufacturing for Indian manufacturing and use them to make the whole world "kiss his ***". Another bait and switch. Anything but "winning".

income tax incentivizes folks to not work. Sales tax incentivizes folks to save (e.g. not spend). Pretty simple math it seems to me.

Norway, Finland, and Sweden have a total population of about 21 million and homogeneous cultures. Let NY, CA, OR, or WA give Socialism a try and watch them fail. And there it is. I knew it would come out sooner or later. You're a DEI grad. You're in favor of equality of outcome. Problem is that equality of outcome can NOT ever be achieved. When equality of outcome is the goal (as opposed to equality of opportunity), there is reduced incentive to work (as the ones who can are shunned for the ones who can't), and there is increased inefficiency (as the ones who can are shunned for the ones who can't).

Equality of opportunity, OTOH, strives to create an environment where everyone has similar opportunity to succeed. Some will, and some won't. I know that sounds harsh to your sensitive mind, but that's reality dude. World's been that way since we started creating social networks. Some folks are simply better than others. I wish I had made it to the pro's - was a very good QB back in the day. Problem was that I couldn't compete at that level. If only we'd had DEI back then!

WRT the 'starve' comment - you just can't help yourself. It's been my experience that those who are falling behind in the debate tend to grab for straw men. Really hope it doesn't start raining up there in the panhandle - or at least, if it does, I hope you're inside.

As far as wealth taxes the majority of Billionaires are Democrats or liberal which is fine but a 75% tax on the oligarchy is fine with us but you have to figure out how to keep them from purchasing their own country or forming their own Nation.

Yeah, but the only way to keep the mfg here (and the export economy) is to either outperform the competition or outlaw its departure. Which given your "world citizen" strikes me as being incongruent. Aren't you the one saying we should kiss @*** of the other industrialized nations in order to prevail over the long term?

We can build $12 calculators but if our competition is allowed to sell $2 calculators our consumers are going to make their choices based on the costs vs their alternatives. Can't help that.

It's the more technical and big ticket items (like ships and aircraft) that we were previously competitive.
