It came from appraisalunion.com.

Craig Butterfiled is the guy trying to put this together. He has a few petitions he is trying to get worded right. It's not perfect, but it's better than what I did, which is .... nothing - almost. I'm guessing that the petition will go up to congress and they will at least be alerted to a problem. At the least, they will be hearing from some group other than the lenders and bankers and AMCs.

I spoke to Craig a few times, good guy, needs help of course to do this right. If anyone is a good writer, I'm sure he would appreciate the input. He is very accessible.

I also know Craig and know that his heart is in the right place...

Maybe some of the people that disagree with how it is worded could offer up some tips/advise to Craig. Tell what you think should be taken out or added. I know he is looking for input on these petitions. Tell him what you would like to see in a second petition. Once he publishes these they can't be changed or reworded. He has to start with a whole new petition. He is not asking anyone that joins to pay dues, this is all out of pocket for him. I'm sure it is taking up an awful lot of time as well. If you go to the website, I'm sure you can email your thoughts to him.

He has several agendas as well. These agendas deal with the problems that plague appraisers. It's worth a good look.

I just went thru his site.

I'm liking this guy ALOT. I will print out the petition and see if I can work a bit on it over the weekend. Maybe if we all chipped in a bit it can be nice and tight.

Very Cool!

Very cool! I hope more people take time out to do this.

Other than their ability to legally skim some of the appraisal fee, just what is the difference between a bank owned AMC and an internal appraisal department run by the bank? What about an AMC that is totally separate, but just happens to have the same board of directors and majority shareholders?

I'm not sure such a law would accomplish anything other than lower the competition among AMCs, thereby lowering fees paid to appraisers.
