3 days dark, holiday vacations, odds of full resolution before New years is slim. I would be going hard looking for other providers. Even if they did resolve this is too big a screw up. I'd be done with them.

Heck I'm on alamode and this episode makes me want to look for options.

It's a cautionary tale, right? How dependent are we on one specific computer or one specific software install?

I'm not totally confident in Alamode. I had issues with them in the past and I wondered if they were in Silicon Valley hiring best programmers and engineers, Alamode products would be much better.

At a minimum you need a hard copy of the software installed on your computer like it used to be back in the day.

how difficult in Total to learn?

Not difficult at all. And, for me, it was a relief to stop worrying myself to death about being able to meet deadlines. Problem solved after spending lots of money yesterday for the license.
