You know about California tracking and monitoring wealthy people who move out of state, right?
Yes, he's a top construction defects attorney who has a tax department in his law firm, he has a daughter in Phoenix so he is also buying a condo there, he never intends to set foot in California again. At this point most of the homes I've built over the last 50+ years have been sold with the owners going to no or low tax states. On another point I can't get materials out of Canada any more, I have to buy them up there and arrange for a private trucking firm to bring them down, Cardinal Glass is the biggest and best manufacturer of glass and IG units in the country, they now have a plant in Hood River Oregon, if I order windows made in Canada Cardinal makes the IG units in Oregon and ships them to Canada, the windows are fabricated in Canada and I have to make all transactions in Canada and pay and arrange for shipping down, customs gets the information and a California use tax is levied on me, the last home I built I aid $15,000 in use taxes on windows alone. Multi-pane windows routinely have seal failures, even though they are covered by warranty Cardinal will not deliver the replacements to me since they want no business relationship with California, they send the replacements to Canada, I have to arrange for crating and shipment down, which on one window cost me over a thousand dollars.
