All Solar, Et Al, In 12 Years?

PA state plan from 2012 is on the internet. Easy to find via Google.

So again, Paris was a joke because the solutions addressing a problem that is either over hyped or non-existent weren't strong enough? \

Locally many water projects ongoing, fighting for restoration of some mass transit cuts (impact on the number of cars on the road), continuation of efforts clean our air, and people trying to **** less. (Okay that last one isn't enshrined anywhere but I know people are trying!:rof:)

Hate all the phone calls but Clean Water Action and PennEnvironment are active and keeping the public informed.

Sorry, I wasn't really thinking about Paris.

I look at all the trees they cut down here for commercial solar and wind farms, and very little industry to support that need.

So I was thinking that out by you there is more industry. You guys aren't trying to survive on tourist dollars and healthcare like we are. But really, what would a good local program look like in your area?

Here we have plenty of good clean water, so water here wasn't anything I was considering. But then again, we are a resort area, so lots of people drive out here, in non-electric cars, to go skiing. I hear electric cars aren't really good in snow, and while the snow is late coming this year, it certainly will come.

So fill me in, out by you, what would a good climate change plan look like? Because I'd imagine it'd look different than here.

Elon Musk $770 million richer after big day for Tesla, SolarCity

After large SolarCity buy, Musk profits following deal on tax breaks

Dec. 16, 2015, 6:05 pm ET

Elon Musk’s bargain hunting paid off Wednesday.

The Silicon Valley entrepreneur grew nearly $770 million richer, at least on paper, after shares of SolarCity Corp. and Tesla Motors Inc. shot higher Wednesday as Congress neared an extension of a key tax credit for renewable energy.

Musk, Tesla’s chief executive and SolarCity’s chairman, is the top shareholder in both companies. Last month, he boosted his stake in SolarCity amid a selloff for the stock .

His SolarCity stake of a little more than 21.3 million shares, according to FactSet, grew from $853.6 million to $1.14 billion Wednesday. His Tesla stake of 35.6 million grew from $7.87 billion to $8.35 billion. Combined, Musk’s stakes in the two companies rose 8.8% to about $9.5 billion.

Tesla stock often waxes and wanes alongside solar stocks, on the perception that demand for its electric cars is connected, albeit indirectly, to the fortunes of alternative energy.

Cronies getting their payoffs.

I'd like an electric car if they weren't $100,000...more "energy saving, environmentally "clean" technology fit for a king since no one else can afford it. Might pick up a nice hover board if it doesn't burst into flames from lithium batteries and turn you into a human torch. Lithium mining...makes coal mining look like a Sierra Club picnic.

It takes about 750 lb. of lithium bearing salt (found in Chile and Bolivia) to produce a pound of lithium, and over a ton of ore to make the same amount of lithium. That is roughly $2 per pound of ore...or about $5,000 per lb. of lithium, so the salt based ores are about a third that. Since the downturn that has fell considerably based on consumption falling. It takes some 20 # (about $24,000 worth) of lithium to run an EV. So you move 5 to 10 tons of ore (using gas driven equipment) and run it through processing, transport it to somewhere else to make a battery that might burst into flames...and, feel really good about how you are "saving the planet". Rich people are a joke.

Mass Layoffs in China’s Coal Country Threaten Unrest

The mine’s owner, the Longmay Group, the biggest coal company in northeastern China, announced in September that it planned to lay off 100,000 workers. The elimination of about 40 percent of the work force at 42 mines in four cities is the biggest reduction in jobs that anyone could recall in this steadily declining rust belt near the Russian border.

The coal industry is hurting nationwide, as coal prices have fallen nearly 60 percent since 2011, said Deng Shun, an analyst at ICIS C1 Energy, a consultancy based in Shanghai. And Longmay, he said, produces far less coal with extra workers than newer, more efficient companies.

The signs of severe economic trouble are evident. For-sale signs hang on the facades of restaurants that draw few customers. Robberies are on the rise; manhole covers and cellphones are popular targets. Women say they have stopped wearing jewelry for fear of being assaulted.

Good news, bad news.

The good news is the CO2 emissions are down and are still going down as unemployment grows with economic growth going down.

The bad news is renewable energy adoption has stopped since it makes no economic sense; much more expensive and it creates more unemployment.

Or one could commend them for spending granddad's money to improve the world of granddad's great grandchildren (and beyond).

I do dislike conspicuous consumption but I'll take the benefits of the high $ dude showing off his wealth.
Why Pete, that's practically a confession....does the Tesla handle well?

Which Corporations Own The White House

20151215_wh.jpg

The president and his top advisers have kept an open door for CEOs of Fortune 100 companies, keeping almost 1,000 appointments with them, a Reuters review of White House records shows. Of the hundreds of appointments listed, Obama himself was present at about half. As the corrupting hand of government intervention spreads, so CEOs and the White House have become allies in advocating for green energy, immigration reform, the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal and reauthorization for the Export-Import Bank. So who really owns The White House?

Democrats have long proposed trading the renewable energy credits for crude oil exports, though until recently there was little movement on getting an exports-tax credit package to the Senate floor.

The White House has opposed lifting the export ban on its own, saying the Commerce Department already has the right to approve exports on a limited basis.

Even so, officials didn’t rule out this week some type of compromise on the matter, implying they supported bringing renewable energy credits into the mix.

We oppose legislation that would lift the ban on the exporting of American crude oil,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Monday.

“But we certainly do want to see Congress — and hopefully they will in the context of this budget agreement — make the kinds of investments in renewable and clean energy that are good for our economy and have the potential to create good American middle-class jobs down the line.”

Green groups have opposed lifting the ban at all, warning about the impact it would have on the use of fossil fuels around the world.

Bill McKibben, the co-founder of the climate change group 350.org, called lifting the ban hypocritical in light of the climate agreement leaders reached in Paris this weekend.

“Doing it the week after the solemn and pious talk about saving the planet is not like some parent who smoked dope in the ‘70s warning their daughter about drugs — it’s like a parent who is currently high warning their daughter about drugs,” he wrote in an op-ed for The Hill. “You might as well hold the launch party for your vegetarian cookbook at a steakhouse.”

Politics! Money is the mother's milk of all politics. Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! Green energy gets tax breaks and big oil gets to ship it all over the world. Everybody wins except the "save the planet" crowd. :rof:

Can't say I'm a know-it-all but I certainly know what kind of car I drive!:rof::rof:
