Got a new toy. 1955-57 Hofner model 450 archtop w/ Hofner 503 blade pickup. Very Good+ condition
Price: FREE

Little bit o lutherie to lower action, modern 1/4" jack, some flatwound strings and it is sounding glorious.

It's a beautiful piece. Condition appears great. I love the period Pecan finish - looks the the trim-work in a 50's house. Very cool. Now go learn to play it!!!! Not nice to cage such a thing.

technically it's called TV Yellow. they came up with the color to make it look better on b&w tv. found this little tidbit in my searching:

Years of Production: 1955 - 1959 (switched to SG body), 1976 - 1995, 1998 - present

Body Style: Single cutaway solidbody

Wood Composition: Mahogany body, Mahogany neck, Rosewood fingerboard

Design Elements: Two single-coil P90 pickups, Single-piece bridge/tailpiece, Laminated pickguard, Two volume and two tone knobs, Dot inlays.

Finish Specifications: TV Yellow was designed to be seen on black and white television.

Notable Players: Bob Marley, John Lennon, Martin Barre

as far as playing, well that just isn't in my wheelhouse. never had a desire to learn. i don't however have a problem letting it sit and gain value as i do the same thing with a couple of the cars i own. my dad and i always joked that when i retire i would sell the guitar and use the funds to take a first class around the world trip :) from what i have been able to gather the current value is probably around the $8,000 mark, so the trip is not that far away. could do it now w/o first class but hey, i deserve the best! just ask me!

Gonna hijack this thread.
