Sorry, but you don't know what hot and miserable is. I just checked the weather in Riverside...humidity 54% LOL.
Tell you what, this July come on out here and you can come along on some inspections... 90-95+ degrees, Dew point close to 70 and humidity 80%+. You'll pine for that CA weather LOL. When I lived in FL back in the '70's I met a Marine that had been all over the world. We got to talking about the heat and he said the most miserable place he had ever been was Quantico VA...right up the road from me.

I hear Houston is worse for humidity. I don't believe it.
I grew and lived near Pittsburgh, PA, for 25 years, lived near Frederick, MD, for 10 years, and then lived in New Orleans for 10 years. When I moved to SoCal about 20 years ago I was very pleasantly surprised not to be haunted by huge flying roaches. In fact I could wander around all day outside in the Summer in a suit-&-tie....50 pounds and 20 years ago. My family still has two houses in Northern WV, about 30 miles west of Pittsburgh. Both are totally-livable; both were recently appraised at way less than $100K each. Might just relocate back home again, especially if the AMC can provide work. Interesting to note that my research of the WV appraisal site recently revealed that 3 appraisers are licensed in the entire WV County where I grew up. Probably 3 or 4 appraisers on every block here in Riverside, CA, which is actually a very pleasant city with a "DOWNTOWN" that as an East Coast kid I need to survive emotionally. LOL But True.

Pal of mine recently asked me to research the SFR of his girlfriend's brother in El Segundo, a city I've never visited. Very avg SFR not to far from the beach, estimated at about $1.7M.
Yes Humid States are hell- Funny Compton actually has good weather and is close to beaches but it just got to dangerious :)

Near Ocean and Oil Refinery's--Not really fancy but its all about location and that area is nice weather .

I want to move to Carmel Valley and have a big vegetable and succulent garden, the area reminds me of Contra Costa back in the 60's with a little hippie flair to go with it.

There's an LAX "Aviation corridor" for the flight path over El Segundo where the city added insulation for sound proofing, triple pane windows as well. Then, as Glen stated, you've got the refineries AND the hyperion sewage treatment plant in close proximity. When the treatment plant has problems and the wind is right, It's not a very pleasant place to be.

Having said all that, El Segundo residents are devoted to their city and wouldn't wanna be anywhere else.

El Segundo is a great place to live!! Expensive, but has a small town flair.

Interesting documentary about Death Row Records that relied heavily on Compton PD for paid security staff, including son of the Chief of Police.

That was acient history as Compton has not had its own police force since te State shut it down as I recall in hte eighties. Since then its under Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department. The Compton police when I worked there in eighties were real bad people.

Compton or Watts is really nice as long as you carry several guns and knives 100% of every second of everyday.
I was watching a vid from some ditzy Irish chick - she visited America and got off the bus in Compton and wandered the streets one afternoon with a girlfriend also from Ireland. When they got back to their group at the hotel, their companions were horrified and surprised they hadn't been mugged or murdered...

CPT is actually more dangerious if your Black or Latino as today its almost split down the middle by major arterial streets and race. The Black on Black murder and crime and the nightly warring gang fights between the Black and Mexican gangs. In the mid eighties is was then mostly black with maybe 20% old white people who had lived there sense the early fifties. My first two weeks working CPT was I would get pulled over by Black CPT Cops and fist question was are you looking for a hooker or drugs or both. I laughed and they would say well white guys driving around here usually are. After a few weeks most knew me by site and just waived as I drove by. I have not been in there now in over 20 years as two dangerious. Hell even Sheriffs ride two to a car and some street they dont even drive down unless someone is dead.
