Construction crews not showing up

Some of the worst offenders are the "gentlemen contractors" who are builder/developers. They never deal directly with illegals, their job superintendents do. These gentlemen contractors are very well to do, live in gated communities and are a small scale version of the manufactures who outsourced all their labor overseas the last generation. The giant sucking sound Perot predicted thanks to Bush/Clinton/Bush, NAFTA, etc. is still very present in the residential building industry. Most of them are very woke politically.

To me it is sensible to have more acknowledgement and respect given to trade schools rather than thinking only a 'college degree' should be everybody's goal. Turns out we've got a lot of ppl with college degrees who can't change a tire, nor build a doghouse, nor re-wire an electrical outlet. Now those physical hands-on skills are finally getting some respect, and AI is diminishing the usefulness of many college grads. I guess AI can write whole books and create lifelike videos, or advertising, or whatever. If AI is replacing many of the 'brain jobs', then I guess the 'practical application' jobs will carry greater respect and importance. So far, the robots can't paint your house with precision, nor construct an ADU, nor prepare a tasty meal. Even with appraisals, our on-site observations, careful questioning of the occupants, and thoughtful analysis and experience surpasses what an AI robot can do... for now.

“Do you have a spare?”
Unfortunately, I suspect a lot of girls have "spare" boyfriends. They call that the friend zone today, but I recall being played like that when I discovered one of my old "steady" girlfriends was seeing someone on the side. I was not pleased.

I don't think the trades are immune from supply/demand nor the concept of the point of diminishing returns. The demand for HVAC techs or automotive repair or the constructions trades are just as limited as for accountants. I don't know what the answer is.

I got caught in the Friend Zone when I was in college. I thought I could win by playing the long game. I was way wrong about that, among other things. I can't even blame her for it because it was all my own fault. I did it to myself.

Trying to be the "just friends" orbiter guy is like coming in 2nd to Ricky-Bobby; you're still a loser. If she thinks she's settling for you because she can't do any better for herself then she will come to resent you. It's just a matter of time.

Lucky for me that she did maintain her boundaries despite my attempts. Even if my ill-conceived strategy had worked she would have ended up dumping me later anyway. A woman can't love a man she doesn't respect. We live, we learn.

Several years ago the Feds caught a bunch of illegals in a chicken plant in S. Mo. The plant assistant manager actually ran things as the "manager" was in Arkansas in the front office. Asst. Mgr. was under constant pressure to hire more and speed up production. So, his vetting of some employees was dubious, of course. End story, despite pressure from the top, the management threw the underling manager under the bus and swore on the stand they were unaware that any employees were illegal hires. They knew dang well they were hiring undocumented. He served about 18 months for it. His father-in-law told the story to a mutual cousin of mine.
