Construction crews not showing up

A restaurant or fast food meal out SHOULD cost 3x more than when you cook at home.

I was at a house wrapping up construction and the supervisor said two concrete guys left the country after the election but for the most part people are showing up to work.

My son works for a regional roofing company and sells commercial roofing, warehouses, commercial buildings, etc.

He told his boss that this may be an existential threat to their company. They sub out most of their jobs and its likely that the subs will run out of workers real soon.

And, BTW, you can't pay a young American enough $$ to do roofing; way too much physical work involved. You could pay them $40 - $50/hr and they still wouldn't show up after 2 or 3 days.

I'm afraid of gravity so climbing on top of the roof of a two-story house is a no go for me.

No problem doing other hard work like framing, carpentry, flooring, decks, etc.

Buncha snowflakes. Dad put himself thru college as a janitor...retired a mahogany row executive. Roofing is exactly why I starting looking for something better and took the steps to make myself more marketable. Along the way I cleaned a few toilets myself. Not like I was going to listen to Dad...had to do it my way. Less whining more working.

I think that's a bit unfair.
Let's see it tried before we make the judgment.

They've tried hiring young, strong Americans for $30. The work they did, before leaving prior to completion, was not good. They said it was too hard and too hot. Imagine that, being on the top of roofs in the summer is hot. Who woulda thought? I seriously doubt that another $10/hr would get a different result.

I'm sure there's a few that will do it but not nearly enough to fill the coming vacant spots on the roofing, drywall, and brick laying crews...all Mexicans around here. Usually one on the crew that speaks English so he can talk to the boss.

Ran a hot kettle back in the day. Was in great shape handling 100lb asphalt tar.

Did that in Jacksonville FL in the early 90s....in summer.

Almost as bad as the next job which was concrete road crew laborer. Didn't even know they made a 120lb jackhammer until I got that job
