Construction crews not showing up

Didn't even know they made a 120lb jackhammer until I got that job
These guys just had little 44# jackhammers.

"Moving about on the cliffs was difficult and dangerous. Live air hoses, electrical lines, bundles of drill steel festooned the cliffs. The scalers had to carefully pick their way through the resulting maze. The danger from falling rocks and dropped tools was extreme. The most common cause of death during the building of the dam was being hit by falling objects. The men began making improvised hard hats for themselves by coating cloth hats with coal tar. These "hard-boiled hats" were extremely effective. Several men were hit by falling rocks so hard that their jaws were broken by the impact, yet they did not receive skull fractures. "

So was I.

You were? I was saying this based on this comment by you "They also need to figure out a way so they can't hide behind the "subcontractor did it"

Restaurants don't use subcontractors.

They pay illegals from cash which they then do not report to the IRS. EZ PZ. $4,021 gross receipts. Pull a $50 out of cash to pay illegal, then report gross receipts of $3,971 to deposit in bank.
But Tyson uses subcontractors where they can - Lew Thompson Trucking hauls their feed and live haul. JB Hunt dedicated freight hauls the frozen goods and feed. Etc. But the chicken catching crews? Subbed out to a variety of contractors - now mostly Hispanic. A few years ago a 14 year old was killed catching chickens when he stepped on a damaged wire between a generator and a large fan that they use to keep chickens from over-heating while loading the trucks. Not a Tyson's employee...Tyson not blamed.

A restaurant or fast food meal out SHOULD cost 3x more than when you cook at home.

This used to be the case, but I have been working in a restuarant again part time for 2+ years now and I still am currently doing it, profit margins are razor thin for a mom and pop restaurant like the place where I work, what we are seeing now is, people are simply NOT coming in as much, they know it's going to cost 3 to 5 times more than if they make it at home and a LOT of people are simply staying home and cooking.

Most sit down restaurants are not going to have a non english speaking person front of house, the same with fast food. Back of house is another thing. There are so called "employment agencies" out there that do the same thing as subcontractors. So you may be technically correct, but the results are the same.

I think that's a bit unfair.
Let's see it tried before we make the judgment.

I have worked at a friends waiter part time for 2+ years now as a waiter, I work with young people (20-26 years old) a LOT and I can honestly say that I do TWICE as much as them, sometimes more, ALL they do is complain about EVERYTHING, they're constantly on their phone and at the end of the night, when we have to mop the place, that's when the REAL complaing comes out, you would think we're asking them to work in the fields for 12 hours a day.

That's my personal experience as of this week.

It's called inflation

I have worked in the restaurant/bar business of and on since 1990, I have NEVER heard of restauarnts using an employment agency to hire people for front of house or back of house, I live in Texas and I can tell you from experience, it all matters where you live, because here, there are PLENTY of people who work the front of the house that do not speak a lick of English, I know that may not be the case in Ohio or the Midwest, but it's VERY common in Texas. There are restaurants I go to where NO ONE in the entire place speaks English, I don't know how, but they manage, you will hear a lot of broken English/Spanish being spoken and I lot of pointing and hand gestures.
