Tim,
1. We are not working 8 hour day's. 10-14 hour day's are the norm. Week-ends...
2. I pay $1,800 a month for health insurance.
3. accountants, fees, MLS, gas, car, expenses.
4. No retirement, 401k match
5. What about the down times. Got to factor that in too. 2009-2012. Starving.
Factor all of that in.........what about staff appraisers on a 1/2 split????
Lets play fair now!!!!

No offense, but that almost the same statement the Corelogic guy said several years back in a article........

I always remembered that statement and wondered about it. Like we are suppose to feel bad about making a decent living?

A corporation telling a group that they should be making less. Funny when RELS was charging $500 and giving $250 to the appraiser. Greed. When they are making millions. A fxxx up statement. They have the balls to say that we should be making less so that THEY can make more. BS.

CONTROL and OBEY
I get all that, my response was direct towards someone who asserted that $125-$150k a year is not a good living, which is just stupid and represents the mentality of someone who feels highly entitled.

My biggest issue is going to be when subscription fees are due, the last person I want to pay is Corelogic.

We also make the AMC's a lot of money. So you should at least like that aspect of what we do.
You would think that the AMCs should at least be grateful that the appraisers are such obedient patsies.

Some are saying, go some other software. I am saying that Corelogic with its ability to bundle Ala Mode with its own MLS data, etc., then you likely will have to stay with them in order to access your own MLS, and utilize their "value added" services (market data, seamless M & S, etc.) Monopolies are normally both vertical and horizontal.

We warned of much of this stuff back in the 1990 when the AI database was trying to get going, but no one wanted to hear it. Many thought that Saint DB would be their perpetual protector. :)

Not true. There absolutely were those who believed it and wanted to hear it but were accused of being irrational conspiracy theorists or the tin foil hat syndrome. To this day AI has not been forthcoming even with its own members

It's an ok living. I guess it depends on how you value yourself. $125k as self employed is probably like $80-90k in a salary job. Nothing special.

And that's not to mention all the issues that go along with being self employed. I've worked in offices before, I know you can half *** it most days in the "real world" and still collect a paycheck. I earn every dollar I make, no one is paying anything for you when you're self employed.

Who I really feel bad for are the appraisers that don't have many other options other than this. Which I assume are most of us. That's why I will always fight for the appraiser. Maybe I'm getting close to that point myself? I turn down several job opportunities a year for about the equivalent I'm making now. I just enjoy this too much and would hate to give it up. And I also don't believe things are quite as bad as they appear. Hell, 2017 was the best year I ever had. And 2018 isn't too bad so far (after a slow January).

I wish you great success and wealth, but to say that making a lot more than the typical household is nothing special really shows a lack of understanding of how well off you are compared to most people. The fact is that you are in a much better position than at least 80% of the working people in this country and 99% of people on earth. Most people here have no idea how good we have it compared to the average human being. Go make as much money as you can in your business, but remember that when you are making more than the typical household doing a job that is neither particularly difficult nor dangerous in the overall scheme of things, most people are not going want to hear the constant bellyaching that goes on this profession.

A men brother.

One more prediction and I am done.

alamode has 40,000 appraisers. Next year they will have 39,990.

Just checking out this post now and haven't read everything....I was wondering if Pittsburgh Pete has chimed in yet and if he had an opinion. He was so full of opinion about 7 years ago.

the sky is falling as much as it did 7 years ago. :eyecrazy: At least that's my assumption. Have been too busy to notice--keeping my head down and my nose to the grindstone. Haven't had time to look up for falling sky!

For those of you who are too shy....
Please feel free to correct me if I'm miss informed....

First American owns Corelogic...
First American owns ACI....

Was there this much angst when First American purchased ACI?

I think first american and corelogic split ways about 5 years ago.

I don't know for sure if there was this much angst when first american purchased ACI, but times were different then. So I don't think it would be a fair comparison....

If alamode was the first company Corelogic bought, no one would be complaining. Its only after Corelogic has purchased so much and stirred the pot so much that folks are ill about the purchase.
