Deepseek

So my understanding is that Deepseek does not have the learning capability of of its larger siblings. It was explained to me that it is moreso dependent on the learning models of other AI. Kindof like an AI learning aggregator...which is brilliant in its own way. School me if I got that wrong please.

Not true. Here is a recent comparison test of DeepSeek against ChatGPT-o1 ($20/month) and ChatGPT Pro ($200/month), Claude.

When you download DeepSeek to your computer, you will have both the inference and training code. Yes, you can have it train on your own data, such as large MLS downloads. The training takes more resources, so while the 32b model may work on your computer for inference, it may not work for training. Some guys have gone out and bought used computer chips and equipment to make their own 'super computer'. But, yea, with older equipment, they often have problems getting newer software to run.

When Apple comes out with a new Mac Studio M4 Ultra -- I am probably going to get one, if I have to get on my knees and beg my wife for money. - Not that that will work.

Hey ChatGPT, what is the best way to get on my knees and beg my wife for money?

If you're in a position where you need to ask your wife for money, it's important to approach the conversation with respect and honesty. Here's a way to do it:

Be Honest and Transparent: Explain why you need the money and provide context for the situation. Share any relevant details so she understands the circumstances.

Acknowledge Your Dependence: Let her know that you recognize you're asking for her help, and express gratitude for her support. This shows you value her contributions to your partnership.

Communicate Your Plan: If you're asking for money because of a specific problem, it can be helpful to show that you have a plan to address the situation or will pay her back.

Express Your Vulnerability: It might feel difficult, but being vulnerable and acknowledging your need can strengthen trust. You don’t need to literally get on your knees, but showing humility in your words will go a long way.

Respect Her Response: Be prepared for her to either agree or disagree, and respect her decision. The conversation should be open and allow both of you to express your feelings.

If you’re worried about how it might come across, a sincere approach where you both have space to talk about finances and feelings is often the best way.

I think what was explained to me is that the training code is built on the results of other AI's training. So if ChatGPT begins with a zero and builds itself more efficient models that end at 4 (just assigning those numbers for explanation) ...Deepseek starts with the the level 4 training models generated from ChatGPT, Claude and all the others but can't build a new one from zero. Which is what makes it so lightweight. If true (I am not at all fluent in this stuff) it also implies that the other AI's will be able to evolve independently while Deepseek will be reliant on those evolutions to grow.

Another drivel response from AI - generic crap.....

"Microsoft and OpenAI are probing whether a group linked to the Chinese AI startup DeepSeek accessed OpenAI's data using the company's application programming interface without authorization, reports Bloomberg, citing its sources familiar with the matter. A Financial Times source at OpenAI said that the company had evidence of data theft by the group. Meanwhile, U.S. officials suspect DeepSeek trained its model using OpenAI's outputs, a method known as distillation.

Microsoft's security team observed a group believed to have ties to DeepSeek extracting a large volume of data from OpenAI's API. The API allows developers to integrate OpenAI's proprietary models into their applications for a fee and retrieve some data. However, the excessive data retrieval noticed by Microsoft researchers violates OpenAI's terms and conditions and signals an attempt to bypass OpenAI's restrictions."

My wife is a gambler, so I have a different take on things .... it certainly pays to tell her that I am hopelessly at her mercy, but then I have to follow up with some promise about taking her to Indian Casinos so many times for the next year or so. That may wear out though. She is turning 70 and there is a good chance she will retire - although she likes to work - but jobs are drying up right now - In any case she never planned to work beyond the age of 72 - and that may be the time I want to buy a new Mac. And in between now and then a lot could happen - soooo. Yea I could always borrow money, but I'd rather avoid that. A Mac Studio M4 Ultra with 192G will probably cost $7K. How long am I going to live now that I am 77? My best guess is 88 for what that is worth. Does it make sense. I do not know. Of course if we sell our house in Pacifica and move to a smaller in some less expensive area, then I will be rich again. ... So, hard to say.
