We no longer need teachers, we will need proctors.

without teachers, the question is what is training the proctors and without teaching experience what happens to the quality of the on line stuff?...are we getting to the point that we bypass the professors and are left with no professors...no one to even write the e_books?

It is a question. Do the traditional methods of teaching need to be maintained or not? And if not, then what will replace it and do a good job? Do we get to the point that everyone gets a generic college degree?...A 4 year degree will be like High School. A Masters Degree with have to be changed to a "Generalists Degree" and a Phd. becomes a broad based & self-directed rather than a focused study of a narrow subject?

What are the Chinese doing?....

Barry McGuire (the McGuire in "McGuinn and McGuire just a getting higher" in the Mommas & Pappas song) once said he was invited to an "Alternative Lifestyles" convention to speak. He said, "I won't be asked back I am sure. I told them that there were no Alternative Lifestyles, there was only one Way (Jesus) and the rest was choices on the road to L."

We have a lot of alternatives. We may cease to own our software (we don't anyway - it's licensed to us.) We may cease to take CE anywhere but on line. We already have kids who report withdrawl and feelings of "being alone" if denied texting and cell phones for a mere 24 hours. But these are just choices on the road...we are already very isolated and eventually will cease to have the most ephemeral of human contacts....including sex. So the poor, those "denied" access to the "cloud" will likely populate our future world.

China will keep buying PIIGS debt. Spain's total borrowing for the year would be about $47 billion. China buying $6 billion is not having its intended effect. It doesn't alter the fundamental solvency outlook.

You should not forget China couldn't care less about the PIIGS or the US...except in a context to protect their own currency and position of building their own economy.

While in actuality the teaparty is driven by the constitution and "self interest" ..... they could become very green without meaning to be .... by demanding that the governement balance its budget as it goes forward ...

I was listening to some people talk on the ham radio the other day and they were enraged by the government taking their money and bailing failed states out with it. When you take the bread off someone's table things can get mean in a minute.

This is far more than sad, it is an outrage. Sure looks like political assassination to me by a real nut job, a Timothy McVeigh wannabe. With all the right wing fanaticism being perpetuated by certain media outlets over the last few years, it doesn't surprise me either. Dogs can get violent when you try to take their food away. Humans are supposed to be able to control their rage and act rationally. If not, we are just another animal. Should have been either a cop in the crowd or a law-abiding citizen in the crowd with a permit to carry. From all these incidents that have occured, I would place my bet on the latter.

Unfortunately the crowd was a bunch of left-wing pacifists so they were not armed. There are many such nut cases in the world today. Far too many to go around without the means to defend yourself. It is a shame nobody was able to eliminate this sorry excuse for a human before anyone was killed.
