I find it interesting the title of this thread is GLOBAL economy bursting .. but nearly all the posts are about California. California is not "Global" no matter what the granola state might think!!

True, but California has a couple things going on that make it fairly pertinent to global considerations.

A) It's one of the largest economies in the world, despite only being a state.

B) California tends to set trends in many things; politics, fashion, and gives a view of things to come in neighboring areas. Remember, CA was the first to experience the ridiculous pricing run up, the first to embark on crazy ARMs and 40 year mortgages, and the first to experience the fall out in the recent housing bubble.

C) Those of us who'd rather learn from watching other's mistakes would do good to observe CA and avoid their 'solutions'.

Yes, California is a Keynesian case study in what happens to the collective petrification of a people consciousness due to slavish mind set purported by its elites whom have straw manned their peoples with economic theory that destroys any hope of a newer, stronger society.

California is a microcosm of what not to do.

California is a canary in a coal mine.

The primary reason California’s state and local governments are inundated with debt is because there are two classes of workers in California – government workers and workers representing government contractors and public utilities, and the rest of us. These unionized government workers can support an oppressive regulatory scheme, stifling development of land and energy, because they can afford to pay the artificially elevated prices, and higher taxes, that result from these policies.

Welcome to California! You will pay your fair share of this debt in future increased taxes. California is also referred to as the "People's Republic of California" where government regulates every aspect of life.

Europe and California have much in common.
