Global Economy Bursting?

National Guard was ready to step in to handle state duties, if need be.

Seriously though, what if people start demonstrating like they did in Egypt? What do you think the response would be? Like when WWI vets camped on the White House lawn during the depression asking for the bonus congress promised them years earlier, and we broke it up with the Army??? "The Bonus Army"

I was reading in the newspapers that the bonus army men were going hungry in Washington.

That night I woke up ... got to thinking about those poor devils marching around the capital. Then I decided that it should be a part of my son Jock's education to see and try to comprehend that marching. It was one o'clock, and the Capitol was beautifully lighted. I wished then for the power to turn off the lights and use the money thereby saved to feed the hungry. When Jock and I rode among the bivouacked men I was horrified to see plain evidence of hunger in their faces;

I believe, seriously, that when it comes to food and standards of living people will riot.

The people in Egypt have a problem; no work, no income to sustain living with rising food prices. The new government can't magically feed everyone. If the world doesn't supply Egypt with food for free, there will be mob rule and no effective government.

The problem here is that the states are broke. They can't pay for Medicaid, unemployment insurance, education, and other services supplied to the public. To balance the spending means to raise taxes and to cut programs of all sorts, including state workers and their benefits.

Poor people will die, just like in Egypt. The privileged class will insist on being maintained. They will be protesting and rioting when they are thrown down to the poor class.

And like the news story quoted, the governor intends to cut the unions and their benefits and use the National Guard to staff state worker functions, should they decide to strike. That leaves only one option; riots.

Ok, assuming the people riot; Other than suppress the riots what options does the government have? The only answer I see suggested above is put the national guard in control of essential services. What kind of government is that? How long do you think that will last? What we are witnessing is the demise of progressiveism. The central government will lose it relevance and we will be right back to the 1830's. The existing system is kept alive by life support. Take away the printed money and we are in the worse depression in history. In a week California people will be consuming each others flesh to survive. The Twin Towers collapsing was a forshadowing of what is coming. When I saw those two towers coming down that was what I thought. There will be no NFL football next year, we will have no oil, food will not be available. Last night I went to Sam's Club again to check where things like grapes, plumbs, etc come from. Peru, Chile, etc.

PS: I read that Bonus Army story. Sounds very well organized to me. Someone was in the back ground pulling the strings. Five will get you ten we all know who it was. The very people that cause the mess we are in right now.

It's Breakthrough time again - Print me a house & car

You folks are taking the view that nothing is ever going
to change, and that there will be no breakthroughs.

SURPRISE

It's Breakthrough time, again

The industrial revolution made mass production of goods possible,
& promoted economies of scale that changed the world's economy
in ways that no one imagined. Today a new technology has emerged
which does just the opposite. 3D printing makes it cheap to create
single items as it was to produce thousands, and will have as profound
an impact on the world as the industrial revolution, the printing press, etc.

THIS IS A WORLD CHANGER

What will the cost of housing be if you can print a panelized home,
with panels small enough for 1 - 2 people to lift, fit & "glue" together?

What happens to commodity material prices when waste is cut 50-60-80%?

What happens to FORD, GM, FIAT, MERCEDEDS, all other manufacturers? etc., etc., etc.

Irish Debt Rating Cut to Junk by Moody’s

http://www.midasletter.com/index.php/irish-debt-rating-cut-to-junk-by-moodys/

Big fight over the elections and whether the new Irish government will inject 10's of billions of euros into the Irish banks. Could the voters tell the ECB and the IMF to bug-off?

Moody's is signaling with the downgrade to junk that is a real possibility. Just think what will happen if it comes to pass.

Food prices in the third world

If you live in the third world ... you make about $2.00 a day ...... it costs about $1.60 a day to eat in the third world ...

along comes QE1 and QE2 of the world reserve currency .......... Washington DC and Madison Avenue enjoy the upstream benefits of the QE cycle .....

...but way downstream ....... the guy in the third world ...... now has to pay $1.90 to eat everyday ....... and has a dime left to buy his housing and clothes that just went up too ...

.... all QE has done ... is to ignite a Holy War .....

...downstream costs of QE is WWIII .....

...downstream costs of QE is harmful to the earth and the human ...

... I'm gonna go and fix my storm doors ....
