Computers have become thinking machines with artificial intelligence and intelligence augmentation. Any human involved with a repetitive job function requiring decision making can be replaced with computers giving higher reliability and accuracy. All it takes now is gathering the collective intelligence of humans, which is being accomplished by the Internet.

There was a story on the local news channel last night about how the price of that Valentine's dinner was higher. The restaurant owner said that the cost of cattle feed was driving up a lot of costs. Also, fuel costs were jumping, and he was seeing fuel surcharges on his deliveries. All of these are hidden inflationary costs not reflected in the govts rate of inflation (food and fuel explicitly excluded)

Food prices are being forced down by the monopolistic power of the big meat packers and processors who have basically made ranchers and farmers hostage until there is a critical shortage of foodstuff...which doesn't help the farmer if he doesn't have a crop in, nor can afford to grow out calves for $50 a head in a good year and lose money in a bad one. That is one inititive of the Obama Administration that I support. Break the contracts that are being forced on poultry, pork, and beef producers by Tyson, et al. Otherwise, eventually, it doesn't increase competition and lower prices but rather drives farmers out of business and we have to import our food.
