Parents defenseless against gender 'diversity training'

http://www.onenewsnow.com/Education/Default.aspx?id=1354662

Students in all grades at Oakland's Redwood Heights Elementary School got an introduction to the topic on Monday, as teachers told them there are different ways to be boys and different ways to be girls. In the lesson called "Gender Spectrum Diversity Training," documents released by the school say that students were taught that "gender is not inherently nor solely connected to one's physical anatomy."

"Legally, there is no right under California law for parents to opt out from this kind of outrageous pro-transgender indoctrination."

Now, how many universities offer an undergraduate degree in:

CRITICAL GENDER STUDIES!

http://cgs.ucsd.edu/

Critical Gender Studies is an undergraduate program specializing in the study of gender and sexuality. We came to life as a program in Women’s Studies, but at the urging of faculty and students, reconstituted ourselves in 1998 by pairing gender studies and sexuality studies in one course of study. Since these are interdisciplinary fields, students are free to pursue their interests, to follow the road of inquiry where it takes them. As a result, our students learn to think in creative and productive ways, gaining analytic strengths and conceptual agility by frequently crossing the boundaries of established disciplines.

The program’s core curriculum builds upon feminist scholarship and queer studies, incorporating the interdisciplinary agendas, intellectual debates, changing methodological practices, and major scholarly shifts that have reshaped the fields of gender and sexuality studies over the last decade.

The Department of Gender & Women's Studies offers interdisciplinary perspectives on the formation of gender and its intersections with other relations of power, such as sexuality, race, class, nationality, religion, and age. Questions are addressed within the context of a transnational world and from perspectives as diverse as history, sociology, literary and cultural studies, postcolonial theory, science, new technology, and art.

UCLA LGBT Studies

http://www.humnet.ucla.edu/humnet/lgbts/

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies Program at UCLA is an interdisciplinary program that supports teaching and research on the historical and contemporary experience of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, and transgendered people. It provides an academic home for those who wish to study the intellectual and cultural traditions that have shaped our current understanding of sexuality and gender, as well as for those who wish to challenge such traditions and generate new theoretical paradigms. The program sponsors courses, offers an undergraduate minor, organizes lecture series, facilitates the study of minority sexualities and genders in the broadest interdisciplinary context, and tries to bring together interested students, faculty, and members of the larger Los Angeles community.

Bill Gross Declares The End Of The Golden Age For College In America

http://www.pimco.com/EN/Insights/Pages/School-Daze-School-Daze-Good-Old-Golden-Rule-Days.aspx

A degree represented that the graduate could “party hearty” for long stretches of time and establish social networking skills that would prove invaluable later on at office cocktail parties or interactively via Facebook. College was great as long as the jobs were there. Students, however, can no longer assume that a four year degree will be the golden ticket to a good job in a global economy that cares little for their social networking skills and more about what their labor is worth on the global marketplace. Philosophy, sociology and liberal arts agendas will no longer suffice. Skill-based education is a must, as is science and math.

Even the typical American teenager can look at these statistics and see the value of college. College has never guaranteed a job to anyone, but it sure helps the odds.

That is looking into the past and it does not represent demand for current graduate degrees, for what disciplines.

Fastest Growing Jobs that Require Bachelor’s Degree
Tuesday, March 1, 2011 by Ellen Silva

http://blog.degreedriven.com/blog/degree-driven-2/fastest-growing-jobs-that-require-bachelor-degree

The US economy is changing, so business needs and consumer wants continue to be altered. With so many majors to choose from when going to college, consider choosing a college program where the jobs in that area are growing. The five jobs below are the occupations that will see the most growth over the next ten years, according to the BLS Occupational Employment Statistics and Division of Occupational Outlook.

  • Biomedical engineers
  • Network systems analysts
  • Financial examiners
  • Athletic trainers
  • Computer software engineers

An Overview of U.S. Occupational Employment and Wages in 2010
June 2011

http://www.bls.gov/oes/

Ten occupations accounted for more than 1 out of every 5 U.S. jobs in May 2010. Retail salespersons and cashiers were the two largest occupations, with employment of 4.2 and 3.4 million, respectively. The largest occupations also included registered nurses; janitors; and laborers and hand freight, stock, and material movers.

People who graduate in 2011 with bachelor degrees in philosophy, sociology and liberal arts will end up with out a job or competing for the same job as non-degreed people entering into the workforce.

The only demand for a Gender Studies degree would be in education, teaching in that discipline.

And those headed to college better consider the cost. They may not be able to earn enough to live on and pay back the college loans, after graduation.
