How are my fellow appraisers doing?

Kevin, I am an appraiser on the North Shore, I have not seen hardly any work for some time. Do you ever see anything for the North Shore. Thanks

I am at 86% of last years volume but I am probably working 25% more due to the complexity of the assignments.

Jim...I am with you...volume is down, but the amount of time spent working has increased. I wish I could attribute it to the "complexity of the assignments" but it seems that there is just more BS to address (I guess you could call this complex??!!)

We're on track to finish May with 70 appraisal orders - we have two full time and one part time appraiser so we've kept busy enough. Seems like this year has been pretty consistent with between 70-85 orders per month. We have a pretty good client base, VA has picked up now that prices have come down, doing a lot of REO work. Sales are starting to pick up some - getting some refi work. If the rest of the year keeps up at this pace we'll be good to go - we lost one appraiser in March - so while we're not really getting more orders, it seems busier because we're doing the work she used to do too.

Many REO'S , Love em................

ditto...and I badly underbid a big assignment which has hurt me very bad...the fee should have been in 5 figures. My per hour is gonna be low...way low.

2 to 5 a week but with expanded requirements each requiring 50% more time/work - did build a new feed room for my horses and my kitchen stays lots cleaner!

volume.

Strangely, for all the doom and gloom we keep hearing, I was mildly surprised when I researched my records that my monthly volume is down exactly 4 appraisals from 2007 to 2008.from '06 to '07, my volume dropped 8 a month. OK - American Home mortgage, Option One, H & R Block, and WAMU all closed or changes ordering procedures in that year - big loss. I usually don't pay much attention to it because of the ebb and flow of companies that come and go. BUT what has hurt is the Monthly gross - no longer getting big fees for Complex Hamptons appraisals or manhattan appraisals.

I am starting to see some sunlight creeping through those clouds. We'll bounce back - just need to resolve the HVCC issues and the AMC issue. Let us appraisers who own our own little companies be the capitalist we wanted to be..........

Last week bordered on busy. Did one this morning, got 1 on the schedule for later in the week and 1 promised.

This week has been the slowest in two years. I have two scheduled and an FHA final to do. I usually do between 5-10 per week. Some full fee and some discounted fees. Not a bad year so far.
