Map Issue

SFREP http://www.sfrep.com/

(I'm working with their 30-day free demo package. I haven't spent a dime yet for it, no credit card given, totally free to try.) I like the interface, the people that answered the phone, and the relaxed, low-key tutorial videos. I'm not flashy. I also prefer the arrangement of $45 a month versus a big check once a year. Silly maybe. I don't need all the extra stuff that Alamode offers. It's about $100 less per year than Total as well.

I was with SFREP for 10 years + before I switched to NCV. It's been awhile, but their software crashed A LOT. Even though there is an auto backup feature, there were a couple of instances that the backups did not have the last information inputted or the data was lost all together and I had to start from scratch. If you continue to use them I'd suggest you manually save every few minutes alongside the auto back up feature.

Thanks. I'll keep an eye on that. I'm just in the trial phase now. We'll see how it goes. I do appreciate the input. That was one nice thing about NCV. In about five years of using the software I never once lost a report.

I'm sorry to hear that NCV is already starting to show its lack of updates. I've been trying to switch to Total for the past few months, but I just can't get the hang of it. I was tempted to switch back to NCV until I found something I liked better. Honestly, I don't get the appeal of Total. Yet so many people really like it. It has a lot of features, I'll grant it that. All those features make it the best bang for your buck. At $350 with prices guaranteed for 10 years its a good deal. But in general operation, I find it cumbersome and difficult to use. I miss the simplicity of NCV. Even with all the bugs, I found it less time consuming than Total. I'm often tempted to go with Clickforms as it also seems very easy to use. But with packages starting at $600 they are nearly twice the price of Total and offer half the features. I'm now waiting for ACI Sky to be ready to use. At $400 its pretty price competitive with alamode and appears to offer most of the features with a simpler design. I tried SFREP some time back and it was OK. But again it cost nearly twice as much as Total.

I'm transitioning to SFREP, and it will be fine, but for the moment while I'm working with it I'm still running NCV for some crunch orders this week.

I also want to add that we had a massive power failure this weekend where a large transformer blew in our neighborhood. At the time the power was cut I had SFREP up and I was in the middle of tweaking/building a template. After the power came back on I was pleasantly surprised to see that SFREP came right back up and had saved the last changes I had made. Nothing lost, nothing fudged up, good to go.

Good Morning! I just opened NCV and was able to get it to create location map. The script error is gone. You can create the location map with legend and if the arrows do not populate the map, you can add the arrows easily by clicking the "Annotate with Arrows" icon up at the top...it is in between the "Check Spelling" and "Build Charts" icons. The distance to the subject is automatically generated in the sales comparison grid in UAD format for each comp.
So for the time being NVC is still working!! Hooray!
I hope this helps someone here out. I am very grateful that this map issue is fixed!

BTW does anyone know how to change "professional status" on your profile?

Interesting. Yes, I did go check as well and the script error is gone. Over the last few days I've been working with new software and have started to get very used to it. Fortunately work is a little quieter now so I've had the time to go slower writing reports with the new software. I did have a crunch order yesterday and reverted back to NCV for that one because it had to get out the door.

But sooner or later NCV will not be accepted through various portals. I am a great supporter of NCV, but imagine you're slammed with work, people are waiting to buy a home or refinance, and all of a sudden reports that you've spent days on are not accepted. You have a quickly growing backlog of new orders and you have no software support to call and are then faced with the situation of a crash course in learning new software with lenders and property owners breathing down your neck. Your reports will mostly likely then have lots of errors (because you're stressed and learning new ways of doing things), your orders will be late and getting later, you will be up all hours of the night trying to catch up, and your anxiety level and blood pressure will be through the roof. It's not worth it for about the cost of ONE appraisal per year.

I hate to say this, but the time is now to change folks.

Good point. Do you mind sharing which software you have started working with? Agree, the best time to undertake the dreaded learning curve is when work is slow.
