Print each finished report to pdf. Problem solved
Problem is - can't open them to print them. My hard copy files are very filed away. I quit ACI many, many years ago but I can still open completed files....NCV takes me to the register screen but no matter what I click on it disappears. Hardly seems fair. I am not trying to create just locate

I'm not so sure it fixed itself.

Why on earth is anyone still using NCV? Writing reports on a software package where there is no support doesn't make sense to me. I gave up a few months ago not long after JD announced he was finished and endorsed alaMode.
I went with Bradford. I know, I know they're the evil empire to NCV loyalists but there was almost zero learning curve. The two packages, NCV and Clickforms
are so similar it's eerie.

Agreed. I've switched over to SFREP and it's working fine. I like a lot of parts to it but it was a moderately steep learning curve; took a couple weeks of tinkering around and slowly writing reports to start to really understand the way it works. I have to admit though I've slid back here and there with NCV for some reports where I've appraised the same property within the last year and had the old report as a template. It didn't make sense to re-write the whole appraisal into new software if the old program was/is still working.

But, yes, the time is NOW to switch. Take advantage of a possible winter slowdown to get set up with another provider rather than when you're slammed in the summer and something happens and NCV is no longer going through various portals or reviews. Again, think about it...you are loaded up with work, you're doing several inspections a day and working late into the evening. You have some reports completed and you are balancing and carefully scheduling your days for inspections where you can meet due dates. And then, BAM, something changes and your reports will not go through. At that point you are faced with the daunting task of learning new software while re-writing reports that are past due. You have zero tech support. And at the same time it is taking you longer to get anything out of the office. It's not worth it.

You should still be able to open old files. Did you have a copy of the last version available? It didn't expire. Ever. Even if you can't register the software, I would think it would work in trial mode to get to your report. Do you have a spare computer somewhere you can install it on? Otherwise, contact JD himself. I'm not sure what exactly the stipulations are of the lawsuit. Obviusly he can't sell it or maintain it any longer, but he might be able to tell you how to access old reports.

I wondered if anyone switched to Bradford. I took JDs advice and switched to alamode. The learning curve is pretty steep though and I think it takes me longer to complete a report. Next up I am going to try ACI. I am looking forward to some new cloud stuff they have coming out. I've been intentionally avoiding Bradford. Not because they sued JD and not because they won. I'm avoiding them because Jeff Bradford STOLE JDs proprietary code during the case and was found guilt of the crime. It just doesn't sit well with me the way he conducted his lawsuit. But I have to say I did like their software the best when I was trying out the options. Who knows, if ACI is not to my liking, I could end up at Bradford yet before I am done trying out all the others.

I have old reports in NCV that I cant figure out how to open....Since I retired, I have not paid for software but I would think it possible to open previous, paid for reports. Of course someone has a question about one. Any help out there? Probably should have posted this elsewhere but I dont know how. Sad, really.

Not sure if this will work for you, but if it's been years since you used NCV you will need to update to the last version 2.42:

I'm curious as to why you need to look at your old reports if you are retired?

Hey, your suggestion worked like a charm. Thanks very much for taking your time to help me. FYI, my old files are stored in an area that is a 90 mile roundtrip to access, which I was trying to avoid. I was trying to help another local appraiser with some data. BTW, if you dont mind me asking, why are you posting at 3AM??

Thanks a lot, I downloaded a newer version and have been able to access my old files. Thanks, again
