Scott,
I am glad that you did not have to make that dreaded drive and we able to recover the photos.

RSW,
Well that's just great. You got your photos back. So I win the prize for
'bad day.' I do a house in a commercial zone, flood zone, remodeled, was
listed for $340,000 and I have the nerve to put $240,000 on it for a refi.
I even gave it economic obsolescence. Purchased two years ago for $170.

Guess who got a BBB form letter today? I called the lender/AMC, they are are
okay with the appraisal. HO wants his money back. I've already been
paid by AMC.

I remember about 15 years ago I was living in Anaheim, Ca and worked for BOA 50 miles away in San Bernardino. I had to do an appraisal in Barstow (boondock desert town 70 miles from SB).
I left my camera (pre-digital days) at the house and didn't know until I got home in Anaheim. I'm now 130 miles from the property and have to drive back. I get there and take it to the 1 hour photo back in Anaheim and find out the homeowners had opened the back of the camera and exposed the film. So I had to go out again.

Glad you were able to fix the problem. One of the techs that works for my husband said that the photos are encrypted in the card even if you are not able to see them. Once they were even able to get some photos off a disc for a customer even though the disc was saying it was empty. It was lots of work, but they managed.

...Barstow (boondock desert town 70 miles from SB).

Barstow is a thriving metropolis comparatively speaking. I lived in Baker about 65 miles up I 15 from Barstow and that is really a boondock desert town.

This was the late 80's early 90's before the high desert went the rest of the way of Southern California. I used to love appraising homes on the dirt and gravel roads when Apple Valley, Phelan, Hesperia, and Victorville were still small towns. Back then Barstow was still fairly small. I remember doing an appraisal in Daggett, a dinky little town with the only people visible drinking beer out of a pickup truck next to the RR tracks.

I remember buying a new mazda 626 in early 1988 and bought the extended warranty. Drove it 75,000 miles the first year, most of it appraising. Extended warranty which cost a few grand was up to 50,000 miles. lol

I gave a suggestion... but the OP got their photos back. Good for you!!

Baker .. the hottest little town with a big thermometer and a Bun Boy(Restaurant).Took many a trip up Baker hill toward Vegas...Ah the good ole days.Did you know that Barstow does not even have ONE taxi...Now thats a Podunk town..

Reading this thread was painful...so glad there was a happy ending.:clapping:

I printed the thread for future reference...Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

We were told MLS photo's could be used IN ADDITION to photo's actually taken during the exterior inspection. I was really happy to hear this. Going to be a little tougher for skippy now.

Only wish everyone made this a requirement.

No not really, he'll just send the secretary or trainee. I had to drive to shoot a picture next to my inlaws that I've driven by for almost 20 years to meet the requirement. :Eyecrazy: That waw $8 in gas for a wasted trip.
