I do recall one regular restraunt but not the name. Perhaps that was the Bun Boy. This was back in 1982-83. There was also a Take-n-Go or some such, which was a little mexican joint. There was Charlie Brown's which was like a Village Pantry or Seven Eleven. Let's see, a liquor store or two, Shell gas station and it seems like there was another major one. I worked at the Burger King on the north end of town. That was back when a fellow named Jim McCalpin owned it as a franchise. It also served as the Grey Hound bus station, but passengers had to get their tickets from the driver. I lived in a housing addition further north just to the west of the post office.Baker .. the hottest little town with a big thermometer and a Bun Boy(Restaurant).Took many a trip up Baker hill toward Vegas...Ah the good ole days.Did you know that Barstow does not even have ONE taxi...Now thats a Podunk town..
But Barstow was the big city nearby if one wanted to buy a pair of socks or go to a real grocery store. Vegas, of course, was much bigger, but about 30 miles farther away than Barstow.
